Chewy is seeking a credible and eager Associate Director, EHS, to serve as the designated representative for Chewy Vet Care (CVC) to help deliver our mission!

The EHS Associate Director will partner with the CVC operations team to implement Chewy Environmental, Health, and Safety policies and ensure compliance with all applicable safety and health regulations. By demonstrating principles of modern-day safety science such as human performance, this individual will lead continuous improvement initiatives, influence operational leaders, and support their teams to reduce safety risks in our processes, providing a safe and healthy working environment for our TMs. The successful candidate must build trust, inspire confidence in their operations team, and influence change by clearly articulating how and why. Efficiently support the building of risk foresight into our operational practices and be able to analyze safety data. They must be an effective communicator and send clear, concise, and consistent messages, both verbally and in writing. They must support and develop senior operational leaders on EHS visions, practices, and policies.

What you’ll do but not limited to

  • Demonstrate a zeal for EHS.
  • Act as the appointed CVC EHS representative, coordinating and implementing all areas of the Chewy EHS Program as recommended by the EHS Director.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of EHS regulations and Chewy policies.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to guarantee adherence to all relevant Chewy EHS policies.
  • Measure the network and sites' performance against published requirements in EHS policies and identify improvement plans for the site to close all identified gaps.
  • Ensure EHS recordkeeping and data integrity and provide operations with accurate reporting (leading and lagging) metrics to support business EHS initiatives.
  • Deliver projects on time to a high standard with operations.
  • Analyze EHS metrics to identify trends to recommend allocation of appropriate resources to areas with the highest safety risk.
  • Analyze EHS Audit results and develop and implement solutions to eliminate exposure to these risks and prevent injury at other practices.
  • Develop EHS training and ensure the Practice leadership and TMs are within guidelines and knowledgeable of their responsibilities.
  • Partner with practices and Workers' Compensation to ensure accurate incident management system. recordkeeping, occupational health support is in place and compliance with OSHA reporting standards.
  • Audit the quality, delivery (including qualifications of the trainer), and effectiveness of all required EHS training.
  • Develop an EHS team while leading and evaluating progress towards objectives.
  • Audit and review the effectiveness of deployed EHS tools, so they are simplified for use and are making valuable contributions.
  • Partner with cross-functional customers to assess the impact of new processes on safety and the environment.
  • Ability to travel up to 50-75% of the time.

What you’ll need

  • Bachelor's degree, or 7+ years of responsibilities within EHS, safety and/or environmental programs.
  • Track record of efficiently running an operation comprised of both exempt and non-exempt TMs.
  • Shown experience as an EHS professional, preferably in a veterinary practice or healthcare setting with multi-site responsibilities with knowledge of OSHA regulations specifically 29 CFR 1910.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant regulations and standards, such as CDC, EPA and AAHA guidelines.
  • Experience implementing lean principles and process improvement in an operational environment. As well as department goals and strategies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication capabilities, including solace in collaborating with senior partners.
  • Strong analytical skills with validated problem-solving ability.
  • Strong people leader with 3-5 years of shown experience developing a diverse and dispersed team of health and safety professionals required.
  • Highly harmonious teammate who can build strong relationships with internal and external partners, third-party vendors, emergency agencies, regulatory authorities, and government officials at multiple levels required
  • Capable of delivering high-quality work and data-driven initiatives on time with the ability to lead multiple projects or programs simultaneously.
