About the role

Position Summary: 

 The Medical College of Wisconsin’s Department of Orthopaedic is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide specialty medical care within the inpatient setting. This position is located in Menomonee Falls, WI at Froedtert Menomonee Falls Hospital with rotational coverage at Froedtert West Bend. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team who will contribute to excellence in program administration, patient care, patient safety, research, quality improvement, and teaching.  

In this role you will:

  • Responsible for the medical management of Orthopaedic and Spine post-op patients through their hospital length of stay working in collaboration with the surgical team.

  • Perform inpatient morning rounds.

  • Discharge planning including patient teaching.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Perform comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifies normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive and psychosocial status.

  • Order, perform, and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests, and appropriately communicates and documents information

  • Write accurate and timely progress notes, procedure notes, and/or admission and transfer orders

  • Develop pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans.

  • Monitor effectiveness of plan of care

  • Educate patients on disease and treatment plans.

  • Perform procedures as trained and appropriately credentialed.

  • Document within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and completes other necessary documents.

  • Collaborate and/or consults with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.

  • Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors.

  • Attend required training and meets key regulatory requirements, including those of the privileging institution, CMS, and the Joint Commission.

  • Acquires information on the most current development and trends in the Physician Assistant field and/or Nurse Practitioner field, through educational programs, in-services, professional associates, and current literature.

Qualifications:

Preferred Experience:

  • Previous APP surgical Inpatient experience is a plus.

Minimum Education:

  • Advanced Practice Nurse: Master’s Degree or higher in Nursing from a nationally accredited organization.

  • Physician Assistant: Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies from an ARC-PA-accredited organization.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Advanced Practice Nurse/ Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner                                                       

    • Wisconsin RN License 

    • Wisconsin Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber License 

    • Certification Requirements:

      • American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

      • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)

      • DEA registration

    • Nurse Practitioner Certification from a nationally accredited professional nursing organization

      • Adult-Gerontology Acute Care NP (AGACNP)

      • Adult-Gerontology Primary Care NP (AGPCNP)

      • Family NP (FNP

  • Physician Assistant

    • Wisconsin Physician Assistant License

    • Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)            

    • Certification Requirements:

      • American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

      • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
