About the role

In collaboration with the Vice President Chief Medical Officer, Designated Institutional Official (DIO), and Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC) Chairman, the Director of GME Administration is responsible for maintaining the educational quality, financial viability, and administrative structure of the Department. The Director of GME Administration also ensures appropriate institutional administration and coordination of all medical education (residency and fellowship programs) within The Christ Hospital (TCH) for program compliance with multiple accrediting, non-accrediting and regulatory agencies.

Provides administrative management of graduate medical education, including the coordination of all graduate medical education functions and supervising graduate medical education non-physician staff, including all residency program coordinators.

 

Assists the Designated Institution Official (DIO) in graduate medical education training program administration in identifying opportunities for improvement and assisting in the identification of resources to assist in program improvement. Assist in the identification and further development of program best practices, as well as development of best practice policies and procedures, to all training programs.

 

Coordinate the implementation of institutional and affiliation agreements between The Christ Hospital Graduate Medical Education Programs and outside institutions with the assistance of Legal Counsel. Administer and ensure compliance with all institutional and affiliation agreements that exist between The Christ Hospital Graduate Medical Educational programs and outside institutions. 

 

Coordinate and manage all Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), Council on Podiatric Medical Education (CPME), American Board of Gynecology (ABOG) and other institutional reviews.

 

Manage, coordinate and support the activities of the Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC). Organize and provide administrative management for all resident/fellow grievance and appeal matters.

 

Provide administrative and financial management for the graduate medical education residency programs. Direct the development of the annual manpower, operating, and capital budgets. Review tracking and approval of check requests. Coordinate and implement special budgetary/financial projects such as cost analyses and financial modeling. · Proactively review budgets for negative variances and develops strategies for operational and productivity improvement if necessary.

 

Serve as an advocate for securing institutional resources to support and enhance The Christ Hospital’s Graduate Medical Education training programs and initiatives. Serve as an institutional resource and educator related to graduate medical education administrative, operations, regulatory and financial issues.

 

Coordinate with Financial Management to develop financial models for strategic medical education initiatives that may include revisions to residency complements, developing new residency training programs or enhancing educational rotations within or outside The Christ Hospital, including direct management of the Medicare GME and Indirect Medical Education (IME) Full Time Equivalent (FTE) cap. 

 

Collaborate with physician relations and recruitment and other appropriate departments to develop and implement strategies to enhance resident recruitment and retention within the TCH Health Network. ·

 

Collaboration with the Designated Institution Official (DIO) to complete an annual institutional report to appropriate bodies. ·

 

Supervise the Program Coordinators to manage all Graduate Medical Education special events, outreach and program alumni relations.  

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

EDUCATION: Master's degree in business or related field preferred. 

 

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:  Three years demonstrated experience in graduate medical education or in an academic health care setting required. Three years demonstrated management experience in an academic or health care setting preferred.                 

 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: .

• Proven ability in the areas of financial analysis, budget development and monitoring, decision-making, problem solving, strategic planning, and interpersonal skills.
