Manager, Global Data Storage

1. Creates and maintains production media storage policies, including purging and down-tiering, per department and/or client.

2. Monitors and reports on global production storage utilization, examples include, but are not limited to total usage, weekly and monthly usage trends, at-risk systems.

3. Provides weekly and monthly data forecasting and trend reports to department leads, giving up-to-date visibility and daily reports for at-risk departments and overall trajectories based on changes in utilization.

4. Manage all production storage mediums, such as: on-prem production storage (direct attached and network attached), cloud, and tape-based (LTO) archive.

5. Maintains, reports, and orders physical tape inventory.

6. Organizes physical tape inventory for storage and retrieval ease.

7. Monitors overall system health, such as disc array health, and reports on areas of concern.

8. Creates, maintains and audits automated data tiering and/or purging.

9. Creates monthly surveys distributed to operators in each department to collect info on overall system performance feedback based on need.

10. Gains consensus from functional managers to create, maintain, automate and optimize data transfers between incoming/outgoing external sources, Data I/O, and production departments, including creating processes and procedures to make workflows and wait times more efficient.

11. Optimizes workflows to improve and reduce the time it takes to achieve workability

12. Strategizes and collaborates with production departments on how to improve storage performance and operational efficiencies.

13. Centralizes, aggregates, and refines production workflow and client storage SLAs, ensuring that production requirements are not in conflict with client SLAs or contribute to production inefficiencies.

14. Helps to enforce utilization optimization of storage through automated purging scripts and other tools as required.

15. Proactively interfaces with IT/engineering regarding responses to and the prevention of red alerts.

16. Works with IT/engineering on opportunities regarding volume allocation, re-allocation, and reduction based on forecasted needs.

17. Works with IT/engineering team to help ensure current infrastructure meets or exceeds operational needs.

18. Works directly with Data IO and operations on forecasting of content transfers both inbound and outbound to gauge storage utilization across all tiers (performance, tiering, parking lot).

19. Ensures only content being serviced is running on performance storage and that tiering policies are in line with operational needs and expectations.

20. Determines and creates a storage utilization forecasting methodology informed by analysis of data trends of content going inbound and outbound at all locations.

21. Is the liaison between Data I/O, operations, and engineering teams to ensure crisp communication regarding the current state and utilization of storage platforms and tiers.

22. Creates a communication standard and strategy to be distributed through operations management to ensure all tiers of storage never reach capacity thresholds.

Requirements

• Positive attitude with a service-minded attitude and demeanor.
• Self-starter, with the ability to self-manage and take general direction, be innovative, and complete projects
• Strong understanding of digital media and storage systems within a post-production environment including a deep knowledge and understanding of enterprise storage and storage tiering.
• Has knowledge and experience regarding CDN and Pixelogic platforms.
• Familiarity with both NAS and SAN platforms.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited College/University or equivalent professional experience.
