About this Job:As an AVP, Data Scientist at Axos, you will be at the forefront of leveraging advanced data science and modeling techniques to drive strategic decision-making and optimize the performance of retail loan portfolios.
Responsibilities:
- Act as the owner of retail loan data, conducting in-depth analyses to identify patterns and behaviors in loan performance, and proactively addressing areas of concern or opportunity.
- Oversee development and refinement of existing and new sophisticated underwriting tools, models, and evaluation rules to streamline the loan origination process and enhance portfolio risk management. This may involve partnering with 3rd party vendors or other analytics groups at the bank.
- Utilize predictive modeling and machine learning algorithms by either personally leading their development or partnering with other analytics groups with machine learning skills. This role will ultimately be analyzing profiles, credit bureau data, fraud indicators and more identify trends and patterns that inform automated loan approval decision-making.
- Collaborate with loan production business leaders and underwriters to translate data insights into actionable underwriting strategies and credit risk assessments, ensuring alignment with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Establish dashboard design requirements. Axos uses advanced data visualization tools such as Tableau to provide stakeholders with prompt visibility into portfolio performance metrics, including delinquency trends, funding ratios, and pricing dynamics.
- Serve as a key liaison between underwriting and business stakeholders, facilitating cross-functional collaboration and communication to bridge the gap between data-driven insights and strategic decision-making.
- Mentor and coach junior team members in data analysis techniques, modeling best practices, and stakeholder engagement strategies, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Finance, or related field
- 3+ years of relevant working experience
- Advanced Excel skills to include pivot tables, lookup formulas, logic-based rules (if, countifs, sumifs, etc.) to handle ad hoc situations and new data sources
- Self-quality control and validation skills
Preferred:
- Pursued or have Actuarial certifications
- Experience with large datasets (100k+ records)
- Reporting power user (i.e., Tableau, Excel, SQL, etc.)
- SQL Coding
