Why We Need You

We are seeking a skilled Facilities Manager to oversee the daily operations of the Museum’s facilities supervisory staff and to provide strategic guidance for the operation of mechanical and electrical systems. This role is essential to ensuring the comfort and safety of all guests and staff. Responsibilities include supervising personnel, managing work orders, and maintaining the continuous operation of our physical plant systems across 750,000 square feet of museum property.

What You’ll Accomplish

  • Ensure Optimal Building System Performance
    Implement and oversee proactive preventive and predictive maintenance programs for all building operating systems. Develop specifications, solicit and evaluate bids, negotiate and award contracts, and monitor contractor performance for systems including fire alarm/suppression, elevators, escalators, HVAC, high-voltage electrical, UPS, emergency generators, chiller and steam plant operations, life safety, and building management systems. Maintain high operational standards to ensure seamless delivery of services to guests and staff.
  • Develop and Lead High-Performing Facilities Team
    Recruit, train, and evaluate Facilities staff to ensure the department is staffed with qualified personnel. Foster professional development through training and mentorship opportunities, and cultivate a culture of teamwork, accountability, and excellence that supports the Museum’s mission and operational goals.
  • Efficiently Manage Work Order System
    Assign, monitor, and prioritize work orders to ensure timely and efficient response to maintenance needs. Use work order data to optimize resource allocation and maintain the Museum’s high standards of service and operations.
  • Promote Safety and Operational Readiness
    Create, distribute, and train staff on instructional, safety, and emergency procedures related to all mechanical, electrical, and architectural systems. Maintain a safe, compliant, and pleasant workplace for all employees and visitors.
  • Ensure Regulatory Compliance and Effective Partnerships
    Maintain active, professional relationships with city, state, and federal code enforcement agencies and inspectors. Ensure compliance with applicable regulations (e.g., OSHA, NFPA, DEP, EPA, DEQE, ASHRAE) through regular inspections, documentation, and prompt remediation of deficiencies to avoid penalties and ensure uninterrupted operations.
  • Oversee Budgeting and Financial Stewardship
    Assist in developing and managing budgets for facilities maintenance, capital improvements, and renovation projects. Monitor expenditures to ensure funds are used effectively and align with institutional priorities.
  • Advance Museum Sustainability and Public Image
    Uphold and promote Museum policies, procedures, and sustainability initiatives. Represent the Museum positively to internal and external stakeholders, reinforcing its commitment to innovation, stewardship, and environmental responsibility.
