Job Description
Job Summary:
We are looking for a candidate to work as part of our East Region Dams Practice located in our Germantown, Maryland office as an Associate Geotechnical Dam Safety Engineer. This position will support a variety Dam Safety Engineering projects across the East Region. The successful candidate will join the ENR consistently ranked #1 Dams and Reservoirs firm and have access to exciting career advancement opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical support to dam project managers, including design, analysis, inspection, construction observation, and regulatory compliance activities associated with a variety of dams. Includes:
- Planning, implementing, and overseeing geotechnical subsurface exploration programs including assigning laboratory testing with assistance.
- Performing dam analysis and design such as material characterization, seepage, slope stability, settlement and filter compatibility analyses for dams.
- Preparing geotechnical reports, boring logs, drawings, and specifications for dam projects.
- Preparing and presenting technical presentations to internal project team.
- Conducting field observations and site visits for dam safety inspections and dam construction oversight.
- Progression toward greater responsibility, including task and project management and certification as a professional engineer.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, with an emphasis in Geotechnical, with 2 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
- Successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering exam.
- Proven coursework and/or background in geotechnical engineering.
- Valid U.S. Driver’s License and as a condition of employment, must be able to pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records review.
- Due to the nature of work, U.S. Citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on geotechnical engineering.
- Ability and desire to occasionally travel to project sites, both local and remote.
- Demonstrate proactive problem-solving skills.
- Ability to maintain organization in a changing environment.
- Exhibits initiative, responsibility and flexibility.
- Resourceful, highly organized professional with attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
- Effective time-management and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Strong desire to learn along with professional drive.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with related geotechnical software such as GeoStudio and gINT.

Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $75,000 - $95,000.
