We are dedicated to empowering persons with developmental disabilities charged with a felony crime to acquire the skills needed to become competent to stand trial, and to acquire the skills and supports that will prepare them for success in their future environments.   

 

DDDP is a forensic facility working with individuals with disabilities in a secure setting.  These individuals have been adjudicated by the courts as incompetent to proceed to trial and have significant behavioral and psychiatric issues.  DDDP provides rehabilitative, vocational, and daily living skills training to the individuals served which allows for a smooth transition back into a non-secure residential or community setting.

 

 

Duties and responsibilities of an Institutional Security Specialist I F/C include: 

 

Monitor electronic sensory devices for the Forensic services, including door alarms and fence alarms, through mobile patrols, walking patrols and stationary post assignments.  Make visual and physical Security checks within the secure area of the Forensic facilities and surround areas through both mobile walking and surveillance.  Perform necessary searches and inspections of persons and property to restrict the introduction and movement of contraband as defined by Florida Statute or Forensic policy.  Monitor the ingress and egress of persons, vehicles, and objects within the secure area. Provide observation of Forensic residents outside the Forensic facilities to deter inappropriate actions by routinely making mobile patrols of the institutional campus and surrounding areas, as well as walking patrols throughout the buildings and grounds of the campus.  Utilizing state vehicles, or occasionally through air travel, transport Forensic residents to off grounds/out of town activities such as court appearances, medical appointments, and transfers to other facilities.  Respond to requests for assistance calls with unmanageable or potentially violent residents within the Forensic facilities and assist as needed in the escorting of residents deemed high escape risks on the grounds of the facility.  Utilizing established MANDT or other hospital approved techniques, verbally and physically intervene with violent or unmanageable residents to resolve problems, and prohibit harm to the residents, staff or other persons in the area.  Maintain accurate and concise information of department activities as required by existing operational procedures and Post Orders and ensure compliance with existing Hospital Departmental Operating Procedures and Post Orders, in all activities.  Comply with the HIPPA guidelines and other related statutes/laws concerning release of information and confidentiality.  Respond and participate in the recapture efforts of escapes, residents committed to the hospital under Florida Statute 916, including mobile zone assignments, and patrol functions, foot searches of the campus and surrounding areas, as indicated and isolated stationary assignments to areas for extended periods of time.  Work closely with Law Enforcement agencies and Department of Corrections to encourage and maintain a good working relationship and to reciprocate assistance to their departments.  In efforts to establish and maintain the relationship, provide assistance in emergencies such as escapes by providing additional mobile patrols.   Provide assistance to local law enforcement as requested concerning investigations involving hospital staff, residents or property and assist in emergencies such as traffic control for accidents, searching arrestees and providing unarmed assistance in reports of suspicious and criminal activities.   Maintai
