Summary




Technicians will be responsible for equipping both new and existing fleet vehicles with items such as decals/graphics, bumper systems, radio systems and equipment, emergency lighting, radar systems, camera systems and other essential law enforcement equipment as needed. Responsible for inspecting all vehicles and associated fleet equipment to ensure proper function. Coordinates and completes related repairs as needed. Capable of completing written work orders and/or build sheets to interpret various installation and repair functions as necessary. Ability to work both independently and as a team.

Equips both new and existing fleet vehicles with various law enforcement equipment. interprets build plans and various operations/instruction manuals. Installs essential equipment including decals/graphics, bumper systems radio systems and equipment, emergency lighting, radar systems, camera systems and other essential law enforcement equipment as needed.

Troubleshoots and completes repairs related to law enforcement equipment specific to South Carolina Department of Public Safety (SCDPS) fleet vehicles. Coordinates equipment repairs with service writers and inventory control. Documents and completes work orders as needed.

Decommissions SCDPS fleet vehicles to include removing all law enforcement equipment. Coordinates equipment removal with service writers and inventory control regarding property disposal.

Responsible for proper identification/handling of SCDPS fleet vehicles and equipment. This includes the proper documentation of SCDPS fleet equipment regarding installation, repair and disposal.

Assists with and performs other essential Fleet Shop support duties as designated by supervision.

Work experience that involved the independent performance of job duties directly related to the area of employment.

Agency Additional Requirements:
  • High school diploma and working knowledge of automotive electronics. 
  • Previous experience with 12 volt electrical systems.
  • Basic knowledge of the 12 volt electrical application, theory and/or diagnosis.
  • The ability to work both independently and with a team.
  • Effective communication/customer service skills.
  • Ability to learn and adapt quickly to changing needs. 
  • Ability to determine when Floor Supervision should be consulted.
  • Work in a fleet shop/warehouse environment.

Qualifications

Working knowledge of automobiles with one (1) or more years of experience.
