The COMET contract provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. These tasks will support the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services programs.

 

Selected candidate will be responsible for an assigned Spaceflight Technical Operations department of approximately 25 - 30 wage determined technicians, who directly support either flight hardware processing or Ground Support hardware.  

 

Duties and responsibilities include managing daily department operations to meet scheduled activities for the Artemis program at Kennedy Space Center.  Responsible for tracking critical certifications for employees to ensure processing requirements are met and appropriate resources are available. Participate in certification reviews and develop new certifications as required.   Review and approve weekly time cards and manage overtime hours.  Monitor employee training requirements.  Work directly with other shop management to cross train and cross utilize resources.  Participate in budget development activities and manage department budget.  Gain familiarization of Operational Procedures and Safety Procedures and ensure workforce follows established procedures and works safely.  Perform performance reviews and drive employee development.   Participate in various meetings as the department representative.   Lead department meetings to communicate pertinent information to employees.  Participate in process improvement initiatives.    

 

Here's What You'll Need:

 

Bachelor of Science (BS) in related management area; at least 7 years related experience including at least three years of successfully managing people.  Familiar utilizing schedules to make technician work assignments.  

Must be able to work second shift and rotate through weekends as required. Looking for a candidate with leadership experience serving in roles such as management, TTL roles, temp lead roles. Direct knowledge of Artemis processing desired in either launch vehicle processing or ground support processing.

Physical Requirements

·       May be required to climb stairs to access equipment for trouble shooting.

·       Will be required to wear hearing protection, eye protection, and other associated personal protective equipment.

·       Position may involve extended periods of sitting or standing.

·       Physical requirements are sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs, and access to remote structures.

·       Position is located on a hazardous testing facility; must be able to quickly evacuate buildings in the event of an emergency.

Work Environment

·       May be required to work inside and outside throughout the test complex.

·       Position may require individual to travel daily to different areas on site.
