Director Global Transportation & Trade Compliance

This is a Director level position that will lead the global transportation and trade compliance team at Toast. This high performing leader will set the strategy for transportation of hardware products, both international and domestic, focus on operational excellence, and drive business change as needed. Continuously monitor and apprise Hardware Ops leadership of potential risks in the market surrounding cost, capacity and other issues pertaining to global logistics, and implement appropriate risk mitigation strategies. Provide subject matter expertise on cross-border transportation and ensure all Toast shipments are in compliance with Customs and local regulations.
About this roll* (Responsibilities)
- Participate in the S&OP process and ensure that Toast has the required carrier capacity to transport hardware inventory per the supply plan at optimal cost
- Own the commercial and operational relationships with all carriers and lead QBRs to actively manage performance, cost and service targets
- Partner with IT to implement and utilize technology tools (such as Ratelinx, FourKites, Narvar etc.), and carrier systems, to provide visibility to inventory movement and customer orders
- Ownership of the transportation budget, delivering to the forecast, while leading cost savings initiatives for year over year improvements
- Mentor and coach logistics team on implementing best practices in freight transportation and trade compliance
- Collaborate with key internal stakeholders such as procurement, manufacturing ops, warehouse/3PL operations, IT, Finance, Accounting, as well as external partners to optimize the entire supply chain
- Network with peer companies and professional organizations to stay current with industry trends (freight cost, service, etc.) and drive best practices at Toast
Do you have the right ingredients*? (Requirements)
- 7+ years of direct experience with global freight transportation and trade compliance
- In-depth understanding of cross border regulations and compliance requirements (Customs Broker license is a plus but not required)
- Strong people management and organization skills
- Excellent analytical and continuous learning mindset with ability to present clearly and concisely
- Establish control of transportation operations using appropriate tools/systems and KPIs/metrics (costs and on-time performance)
- Demonstrated knowledge of implementing logistics systems and working with IT teams to scale operations and enable new capabilities
- Willingness to challenge the status quo by questioning existing practices, identifying barriers, and developing new and better ways to do things ensuring continuous improvement
