Moog is looking for a Section Head, Mechanical Systems Engineering to lead a team of 5 – 7 Engineers who specialize in requirements management, and/or who support general data item deliverables and validation/verification tasks across multiple concurrent development programs.  In this role, you will provide engineering leadership, project leadership, business leadership, and own engineering process for your team.  You will provide and assign the appropriate engineering resources on projects, manage the performance of your direct reports, maintain and improve engineering processes, and ensure project milestones are met.  Reporting to an Engineering Manager, you will have a 9/80 schedule and a hybrid work option (3 days per week in the office) in Torrance, CA.

As a Mechanical Systems Section Head, you will…

  • Manage execution of work by teams and team members through monitoring progress, providing technical direction, and problem-solving solutions.
  • Mentor direct reports in all aspects of Systems Engineering and Engineering career development. Model Systems Engineering industry best practices, as well as Moog core values, to promote development of world-class Systems Engineering talent.
  • Supervise team members providing goals, feedback and recognition and developing bench strength through career planning and progression. Actively demonstrate Performance Management of resources to optimize skills and capabilities.
  • Support new business initiatives though trade studies, concept development, proposal responses, and customer presentations.
  • Manage the advancement of the product development process by providing technical support, developing tools and infrastructure, facilitating learning and continuity across teams.
  • Participate with other Managers and the Chief Engineer, as a member of the Engineering Leadership Team. This team sets direction for, and develops processes for, the Actuation Engineering department. It also provides technology leadership by maintaining an active R&D technology roadmap; supporting R&D activities; optimizing the interplay between product technology, tools and programs; and facilitating technology collaboration with other technologies.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to a Systems Engineering team and/ or cross-disciplinary engineering team working on flight control actuation technology and/or integration of flight control actuation systems.

To be considered for this job, here’s what you’ll need to bring with you: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Aerospace is desirable) with 7+ years of Engineering work experience OR MS Degree in Engineering with 5+ years of Engineering work experience
  • Team/project leadership experience
  • Proficiency with DOORS requirements management tool (Dynamic Object-Oriented Requirements System)
  • Experience and working knowledge across all Systems Engineering domains, to include requirements new business/concept development, requirements development/allocation, system design and analysis, integration and test, and anomaly resolution/root cause investigations
  • Critical thinker, adept at relationship building and leading through influence
  • U.S. DoD Security Clearance or the ability to obtain one; therefore US citizenship is required

This position requires access to U.S. export-controlled information.

It’d be great if you also had: 

  • Experience in Safety-Critical Aircraft Control Systems and/or Actuation Systems design, development, integration, and certification
  • Ability to get things done through others, coaching and mentoring along the way
  • Experience in the aerospace/defense manufacturing industry strongly preferred
  • Direct management experience is a plus
