Job Summary

The Environmental Worker General for the Hazardous Waste Management Program, serves in an assistant or apprentice capacity, providing support to the Environmental Manager, Hazardous Waste Management, in the execution and administration of hazardous waste operations and environmental compliance programs. Duties are performed in accordance with the UABOS Türkiye Performance Work Statement (PWS), applicable USAF directives, Host Nation Final Governing Standards (FGS), Environmental Management System (EMS) requirements, and all applicable environmental laws and regulations.

The position supports day-to-day operations of the Hazardous Waste Storage Area (HWSA) under the direction of qualified personnel.

The individual will work under supervision while developing knowledge and skills related to hazardous waste operations. The position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a forklift license to support supervised hazardous waste handling, movement, loading, unloading, and storage operations within the HWSA and associated environmental operations areas.

This position reports to the Civil Engineering – Installation Management – Environmental Hazardous Waste Storage Area Operations under the direction of the Chief of Environmental Programs.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Support the Hazardous Waste Storage Area Operations, in implementing and managing the hazardous waste environmental compliance program in accordance with the UABOS Türkiye PWS and applicable USAF, DoD, and Host Nation regulations.
  • Assist with the operation and maintenance of the Hazardous Waste Storage Area (HWSA) in compliance with Host Nation Final Governing Standards of Türkiye (FGS-T).
  • Collect, transport, store, label, inspect, and manage hazardous waste generated from Hazardous Waste Accumulation Points (HWAPs) throughout the installation.
  • Ensure hazardous waste containers are properly labeled, segregated, staged, and maintained in accordance with environmental compliance requirements.
  • Maintain sufficient inventory levels of hazardous waste containers, spill response materials, personal protective equipment (PPE), and environmental supplies.
  • Perform routine housekeeping, inspections, and maintenance within the HWSA to ensure a clean, safe, and compliant working environment.
  • Support spill prevention and spill response activities involving petroleum, oils, lubricants (POL), hazardous materials, and hazardous waste incidents.
  • Assist in maintaining hazardous waste records, manifests, profile sheets, inspection logs, disposal documentation, and recurring reports.
  • Support environmental inspections, EMS audits, Staff Assistance Visits (SAVs), Unit Effectiveness Inspections (UEIs), and self-assessments.
  • Assist with hazardous waste training for HWAP managers and installation personnel as directed by the Chief of Environmental Programs.
  • Utilize environmental databases and government tracking systems, such as EESOH-MIS, eDASH, APIMS, and other designated systems, to document environmental activities and compliance actions.
  • Operate forklifts and material handling equipment to move hazardous waste containers, pallets, drums, and associated materials safely and efficiently.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable safety, occupational health, environmental, and fire prevention standards while performing assigned duties.
  • Coordinate with Civil Engineering, Logistics, Safety, Fire Department, and other base agencies on environmental and hazardous waste management requirements, as directed by the Chief of Environmental Programs.
  • Support environmental incident reporting, corrective actions, and compliance tracking efforts, as directed by the Chief of Environmental Programs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned in support of environmental management and hazardous waste operations, as needed and directed.
