About the role

Head of Group Benefits Rating & Quoting, Underwriting

We’re seeking a dynamic, people‑centered leader to oversee and evolve our newly centralized Rating and Quoting operations across multiple product lines. This role is responsible for setting strategy, driving consistency, and enabling high‑performing teams to deliver accurate, timely, and competitive proposals for mid‑ to large‑size groups. The ideal candidate brings a strong balance of operational rigor, talent development, and innovation—leveraging data, technology, and emerging AI capabilities to continuously improve service, productivity, and customer experience. This leader will partner closely with Sales, Underwriting, and Training teams while building a strong leadership pipeline and fostering a culture of engagement, accountability, and continuous improvement.

You will

  • Collaborate with and set process for people leaders and their teams that generate proposals by applying Guardian and competitor information to rate, re-rate, quote, and re-quote competitive proposals, based upon specifications in the RFP, internal guidelines, and/or discussions/negotiations with sales and underwriting teams
  • Responsible for rating and quoting process for dental, life, disability, supplemental health product lines for 2-5,000 life groups
  • Develop and implement rating and quoting process that enables the teams to achieve key performance indicators, such as turnaround time, accuracy and productivity rates
  • Encourage an environment where innovative ideas to improve process are embraced and implemented
  • Drive consistency of process across teams
  • Successfully balance workload across teams
  • Develop and support skill advancement
  • In conjunction with the Underwriting Training team, develop robust and engaging training programs
  • Build and maintain effective relationships and feedback mechanisms with sales and internal partners that successfully balances sales objectives and capacity. 
  • Enable the teams to deliver high levels of rating and quoting service, quality & productivity
  • Develop and implement strategies to meet turnaround time and quality during times of peak quote volume
  • Drive an environment of high performance by establishing challenging service, quality & productivity metrics while maintaining high team engagement
  • Be instrumental in developing future Rating leadership for smooth succession
  • Have a lead role in Underwriting’s AI transformation

You have

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
  • A minimum of 5 years of leading teams in a production environment
  • The proven ability to manage both day to day execution and initiatives to achieve results of business goals
  • Excellent interpersonal communications skills both written and verbal
  • Advanced problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Exceptional leadership skills to effectively manage a large team in a virtual environment.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to work well under pressure.
  • People oriented leader with exceptional ability to inspire teams creating high performance.

Salary Range:

$110,350.00 - $181,285.00

The salary range reflected above is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position. The salary for this position ultimately will be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate. In addition to salary, this role may also be eligible for annual, sales, or other incentive compensation.
