Project Overview

Bechtel is designing, constructing, and commissioning the world’s largest radioactive waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy at the Hanford Site in southeastern Washington State. The Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant will use vitrification technology to process and solidify 56 million gallons (210 million liters) of radioactive and chemical waste stored at the Hanford site, which is a byproduct of plutonium production during World War II and the Cold War era. 

 

The project is the largest undertaking of its kind and one of DOE’s most technically challenging cleanup projects. Its construction spans 65 acres (26 hectares) with four major nuclear facilities – Pretreatment, Low-Activity Waste Vitrification, High-Level Waste Vitrification and Analytical Laboratory – as well as operations and maintenance buildings, utilities, other support facilities. 

 

The Waste Treatment Completion Company (WTCC) is a limited liability corporation created by Bechtel National Inc. (BNI) and Amentum. WTCC is a subcontractor to BNI, the prime contractor, to deliver the construction, turnover, startup, and commissioning activities for the WTP project.  

 

This position is located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) and works a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30am to 5:00pm (day shift) or 5:30pm to 4:00am (night shift), subject to change. The project may require employees to work weekends, overtime, holidays, and/or night shift as business needs arise. 

 

Position Summary

The Site Support Services – Distribs (S3D) group operates within the Facility Management organization of WTCC and is responsible for configuration and change management of non-process areas to support both ongoing construction, commissioning, and startup testing as well as the daily operation of administrative and temporary buildings. S3D engineering performs design, inspections, field support to both WTCC craft and subcontractors, and develops work documentation for maintenance, modification, and new construction. The Senior Civil Field Engineer is responsible for tasks and activities relating to construction engineering within the Civil discipline (i.e., concrete, structural steel, excavation/backfill, scaffolding, architectural finishes) utilizing nuclear codes and standards. Responsibilities include the development of work plans, coordinating materials, performing, and documenting inspections, reporting progress, and resolving conflicts in design and construction related to the installation and testing of commodities through turnover to Startup/Commissioning. This position will be responsible for a variety of construction tasks utilizing nuclear and industrial codes and standards related to concrete, steel, earthwork, architectural installations. Duties include interpreting design and vender drawings and specifications. This position requires good planning and organizational skills, ability to perform detailed inspections and the ability to produce accurate, clear, and concise documentation.
