Project Overview

We are designing and building a one-of-a-kind facility that will turn radioactive and chemical waste left over from World War II and Cold War plutonium production into a form safe for disposal. Your efforts will help protect the nearby Columbia River and the communities, salmon, and wildlife along its shorelines throughout the Northwest.
Sitting at the confluence of the Columbia, Snake and Yakima rivers near two mountain ranges, our community provides access to year-round outdoor recreation, 300 days of sun a year, more than 200 wineries within a 50-mile radius, and the amenities of large cities just a three-hour drive (or short flight) to Seattle and Portland.
This position is a full-time role located in the Richland, Washington project office, and works a 9/80 schedule, offering every other Friday off.
Position Summary
The Project Engineer will provide leadership and develop strategic relationships with DOE personnel to advance the design of the High Level Waste facility, reporting to the Project Engineering Manager. The Project Engineer will be responsible for interfacing with Engineering Management to collaborate on staffing needs, forecasts, trend authorizations, and technical reviews. They will also be responsible for directing engineering assignments on the project and has technical responsibilities for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating these assignments.
Responsibilities
- Directs and coordinates engineering activities for the project or assigned portion including supervision of engineers of all disciplines within the project team.
- Establishes the engineering budget and schedule, develops engineering schedules for approval.
- Performs and manages the work in accordance with relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
- Coordinates engineering effort with Project Manager, Procurement, Construction, Startup, Environmental Safety and Health (ES&H), Project Controls, and other Global Business Units (GBUs) when necessary.
- Directs engineering activities in preparation of project proposals, including estimates for engineering staffing, quantities, scope reviews, schedules, and coordination with other functional groups.
- Collaborates annual performance reviews with Engineering Management in accordance with approved procedures.
- Reviews and approves design documents, change orders, material requisitions, and specifications for construction or procurement use.
- Coordinates activities among the design groups on the project.
