Director, Enterprise Business Architecture

DIRECTV is seeking an experienced and visionary Director of Enterprise Business Architecture to lead our team of business architects who bridge the gap between business strategy and execution. This key leadership role will be responsible for partnering with business and technology leaders to define and shape enterprise strategies that align with organizational goals and drive measurable outcomes by creating and maintaining enterprise-wide business architecture standards including business capability maps, value streams, business processes, and combined IT EA and business capability roadmaps across all business domains at DIRECTV. The ideal candidate is a trusted advisor to stakeholders, providing insights and recommendations on how to optimize processes, reduce operational inefficiencies, and leverage technology to drive business value as well as provide mentorship to the business architecture team.
Here’s what you’ll do:
- Lead and mentor a team of business architects, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence who are responsible for operationalizing Business Architecture Framework within DIRECTV and developing and maintaining business architecture artifacts, including capability maps, business process models, and strategic roadmaps, ensuring they remain up to date.
- Champion data-driven decision-making by ensuring business architecture practices are informed by analytics, KPIs, and measurable business outcomes.
- Collaborate with Enterprise Architects, Solution Architects, and other stakeholders to ensure that business requirements are accurately reflected in technology solutions.
- Facilitate “Art of the possible” workshops and discussions to elicit, document, and analyze business requirements, processes, and workflows, ensuring alignment across business units.
- Align the business capability strategic roadmap with IT Technology Target state architecture and ensure consistency across all functions to promote reusable, scalable solutions.
- Oversee the business architecture process, including reviewing and approving business architecture artifacts and providing constructive feedback.
- Collaborate with business leaders to understand strategic goals and translate them into business solutions.
- Provide input on company-wide initiatives and participate in high-level decision-making processes related to technology.
- Work closely with Technical Architecture teams to understand capabilities of emerging technologies and industry trends to identify opportunities for innovation and improvement.
- Develop and implement governance processes to ensure adherence to architectural standards and best practices.
- Lead architecture review boards and facilitate discussions on critical technology decisions.
- Collaborate with the CIO and other IT leaders to develop and execute the overall IT strategy.
- Manage relationships with key technology vendors and partners.
- Contribute to the recruitment and hiring process to attract top talent and raise the overall skill level of the architecture team.
- Present business architecture strategies and roadmaps to executive leadership and stakeholders.
- Ensure that security and compliance requirements are integrated into all architectural designs.
What you’ll need to be successful:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration or a related field preferred; Master's degree a plus.
- 5 – 7 years of experience in IT Enterprise or Business Architecture role, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Demonstrated ability to translate business strategies into actionable capability models and roadmaps.
- Experience with business process modeling, value stream mapping, and capability-based planning.
- Proven track record of leading enterprise-wide architecture initiatives and driving digital transformation.
- Certifications such as Certified Business Architect (CBA) or certifications in enterprise architecture frameworks are highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of security principles and their application in enterprise architecture.
- Experience with data architecture and analytics platform will be a huge value add.
- Excellent leadership and mentoring skills, with the ability to inspire and develop a team of architects.
