JOB SUMMARY
The Director (Educational Program Manager 1) of Pre-College Summer (PCS) oversees summer programming for UConn’s largest residential summer program for high school students during the academic year and the daily implementation of PCS programming in the summer. PCS serves as both a credit-bearing and non-credit exploratory experience for high school students around the globe to understand the college classroom, work with engaging University faculty, and explore nuances and areas of college life at a nationally ranked public University. In addition to PCS, the Director also supports the larger mission of the Office of Early College Programs, including UConn’s Early College Experience (ECE) program, supporting the design, planning, and implementation of numerous programmatic events. The Director works closely with university faculty, staff, undergraduate and graduate students, as well as high school staff, students, and parents.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide administrative and programmatic leadership as Director of PCS.
- Set, coordinate, and develop the vision, goals, and direction of programs and activities for PCS.
- Work directly with the OECP Executive Director, Billing & Operation Specialist, and Fiscal Director to manage the unit budget.
- Serve as a Slate Co-Captain to create and launch the application and enrollment system.
- Collaborate with various University Departments, such as Minor Protection, Residential Life, Dining Services, Environmental Health & Safety, Transportation, and Parking Services, to ensure that participants have a safe educational experience.
- Plan, coordinate, and manage 30+ PCS summer academic classes. This includes recruitment of faculty and support in the framing of course content, scheduling classes to minimize inter-course competition, arranging classroom assignments, coordinating summer staff support for faculty as needed, and coordinate all logistics (classroom reservations, transportation, minor protection checks, etc.) and be present on-campus during summer operations to assure a high-quality hands-on learning experience for participants.
- Work closely with the UConn Higher Education and Student Affairs (HESA) department to hire and supervise HESA graduate assistants (GA) annually.
- Onboard and support incoming HESA GA in recruitment, hiring, training, and supervision of summer staff.
- Support second-year HESA GA in programming of workshops. This includes identification of academic offerings, recruitment of, and meetings with, University Faculty and workshop facilitators, and oversight of the schedule of classes offered.
- Develop new and established relationships with University departments. This process involves meeting with department heads and other University faculty to explain the mission of PCS, setting comparable guidelines that suit the goals of the program, and articulating the appropriate cohorts offered.
- Create, implement, and evaluate PCS academic programs, professional development opportunities, and orientations for faculty, staff, parents, and registered students. Examples include recruitment and selection of residential staff, organization and facilitation of a faculty meeting and residential staff training, and collaboration with residence life, dining services, and other departments on campus to organize and facilitate a parent and student orientation.
- Evaluate PCS effectiveness through analysis of program data; identify problems and opportunities, and initiate corrective action and changes that need to be made.
- Create and manage new access initiatives meant to expand the reach of PCS to ensure equitable access to programming.
- Collaborate with marketing specialists for electronic marketing including website design and development, social media, and interpersonal marketing through attending expos & fairs, webinars and orientations, and following up with prospective students.
- Benchmark other national Pre-College programs considering components of student applications, costs & fees, financial assistance programs, online programming, staffing (Program and residential), social programming, course offerings, etc.; Spearhead and lead new program initiatives related to benchmarking.
- Assist with relevant OECP projects such as large student or faculty events, etc.
- Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Six to seven years of related experience. Two years of experience must be serving as an advanced/senior team member or working as a project lead.
