Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Under general supervision of the Program Director at the UCLA Area Service Center (ASC), California Newborn Screening Program (NBS), coordinates care and follow up for positives and non-positive Newborn Screening referrals including inadequate and incompletes (initial & recall specimens), optional TPN related follow up, optional hemoglobin follow-up, transfusion verification and early collection NBS cases. Interprets State regulations, policies and procedures for perinatal facilities and providers to ensure compliance with the Regulations. Functions as team leader for facility site visits located in the counties of San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Ventura, and Los Angeles. Assesses educational needs of assigned facilities and collaborates in the creation/maintenance of educational materials for the ASC as assigned. Possesses computer competency for data management and output in different data systems, including Microsoft Office, Excel, Power Point and word processing. Contributes to State reports - narrative and statistics - quarterly and annually and as requested on NBS referral case load as well as facility/provider monitoring activities. Provides in-services, presentations (including online) and other training on NBS Program for health care professionals, community agencies and parent/public groups. Initiates and assists families in the referral process to the special care center for diagnosis and treatment and follows through on positive NBS cases to ensure that affected babies receive required specialty care. Participates as team member by reporting on active and pending events, sharing interesting cases/referrals and contributing clinical expertise for Program development. Provides back-up for referrals handled by other staff members. Functions as a clinical or public Health resource for other staff members in developing statistical and educational presentation materials to the healthcare community at large. Develops and implements quality improvement and corrective action plans at assigned facilities. Participates in the development and implementation of annual education plan and state QI projects.Ā Ā

REQUIRED

1. Minimum two years of recent clinical experience in Pediatrics, Maternal/Chil
