BD Technologies and Innovation proudly offers a Summer Internship Program for active undergraduate and graduate students. Through this program, the student will have the chance to gain real-world experience in research and development in the medical device industry.
Selected students will be immersed in the design and development process to build top selling medical device products for various global markets. The summer internship program at BD is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience at one of the top medical device companies while advancing the world of health.
Each intern will have an individual project and the opportunity to develop technical engineering and scientific expertise. Through our summer internship, intern students develop an extensive professional network, learn how to work in a scientific and engineering environment, build hands-on laboratory skills, and deliver presentations showcasing their work.
We are recruiting for a highly driven engineering/science students with a passion for technology and product development. The candidate is responsible for all relocation, housing, and transportation costs.
Project Area: Chemistry / Polymers / Materials (Interventional Innovation)
Applicable Majors: Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science, Textiles, or related
Project examples: Work closely with a team of R&D scientists focused on supporting BD’s Interventional medical devices. The intern will work as a member of a team that is involved in identifying, developing, and testing new technologies for a range of surgical and interventional medical devices with an emphasis on those used in interventional and surgical procedures. Specifically, the team is focused on chemical and materials aspects of these devices. Under the supervision of a project leader, the intern will help with the development of new chemical formulations (polymeric scaffolds for tissue engineering, absorbable implants, hydrogels, coatings, emulsions etc.) and test methods for characterizing these formulations. This includes chemical and physical modifications of polymers/scaffolds, determination of their physico-chemical properties by various analytical and imaging methods, and assessment of functional performance both in-vitro and in-vivo.
Qualifications:
REQUIRED:
The candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States without limitations and require no sponsorship for visa status now or in the future (e.g. H1-B status)
Graduate students pursuing a degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science, Textiles, or related field
Experience working with polymeric materials (hydrogels, scaffolds, nanoparticles, etc.) and their physico-chemical characterization
Proficiency in Microsoft suite of software (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
Ability to work 40 hours per week for duration of the 10 to 12-week summer internship period
Must be able to follow Standard Operating Procedures and have excellent documentation practices
PREFERRED:
GPA minimum of 3.0
MS/PhD Degree: All levels are encouraged to apply
Ability to grasp complex concepts quickly
Experience developing polymer scaffolds for tissue engineering applications
3D printing of materials
Familiarity with in-vitro (e.g. scaffold-supported cell growth) and in-vivo (e.g. animal models) testing of biomedical materials
