About the role

The Senior Mechanical Engineer (Accessories) will focus on patient-applied medical accessories and sensors. The ideal candidate will have experience designing flexible electro-mechanical sensor assemblies for use on neonatal through adult patients featuring both adhesive and non-adhesive securing methods. The individual must have proven medical device development experience and familiarity with a wide variety of patient-applied medical materials and biocompatibility evaluation. Candidates should be versatile, self-driven individuals with a passion for patient care and strategic contribution in a high-performance, small company environment. Position requires limited travel to supplier, manufacturing, and clinical sites, predominantly in the United States. This role is based in our Lincoln, RI office and reports to the Vice President of Technology & Clinical Affairs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and document requirements and specifications for patient-applied products
  • Conceptual design and development of patient-applied electromechanical sensors
  • Mechanical and CAD design to meet performance requirements
  • Perform dFMEA, pFMEA, biocompatibility and other design risk evaluations
  • Develop and test sensor prototypes
  • Perform verification and validation and other required design documentation
  • Develop, implement and optimize production processes for manufacturing
  • Evaluate and support key suppliers
  • Support the ramp-up and scaling of production as well as cost-reduction activities
  • Support existing designs, as needed, for obsolescence or manufacturing challenges
  • Evaluate performance of designs at clinical sites

Requirements

  • Bachelors and Masters degree in mechanical engineering
  • Mimimum of 3+ years of experience in medical device development
  • Preference for candidates with experience in patient-applied accessories development and familiarity with medical adhesives, fabrics, liners, and other materials; particularly those for neonatal patients.
  • Experience with passive electronic components a plus
  • Experienced with MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) and SolidWorks
  • Effective time management and organizational skills; ability to work independently
  • Strong verbal, written and presentation skills
