Job Description

Manages and performs proactive maintenances, device activation, and other augment work on network elements for voice, video and data networks.  Develop plans to augment capacity relief as needed.  Perform engineering work and applied research, development and design of new projects, to include design, fabrication, modification and evaluation of both physical / logical equipment and devices.

 THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE SR, OPERATIONS ENGINEER ARE AS FOLLOWING

    • Telecommunication experience (highly preferred HSI, data, Metro Ethernet network elements)
    • Project Management experience
    • Experience with ATM, Ethernet, TCP/IP and OSI Layers 1-3 areas.
    • Have a good working understanding of DSLAMs, Ethernet Switches & Routers and their connectivity.
    • Experience with CLI/TL1 commands and GUIs to configure network equipment.
    •  Knowledge of Element Management Systems (EMS), Operational Support Systems (OSS), network inventory, alarming, provisioning and other support systems
    • Participate in the evaluation of new features and products via formalized testing and certification prior to deployment, and participation in operational assessments of First Office Applications (FOA)
    • Write or review Methods of Procedures (MOP), Network Change Management System documents (NCMS) Task Orientated Practices (TOP), Product Change Notices (PCN), Vendor Manuals, Standard Configurations, etc. relative to quality, accuracy, and reliability
    • Have a good working knowledge of circuit and packet switching, OSI reference model, frame relay, and ATM switching.
    • Logical and analytical approach to troubleshooting issues.
    • Work well with minimum supervision
    • High level of customer communication skills and focus.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite is desired.
    • Must have good oral and written communication skills
    • Ability to exercise flexibility and resourcefulness (with assistance from others) in challenging and /or perplexing situations
    • Possess good basic organizations skills  

Qualifications

WHAT IT TAKES TO CATCH OUR EYE

    • BS degree in Computer Science or other technical degree or equivalent work experience in data network operations, data communications networking, systems programming, or other substantive data processing experience which demonstrates a broad understanding of information systems functions and their interrelation, or the equivalent in training and experience.
    • Minimum 5 years of related experience. 
    • Experience with the following vendor equipment, including but not limited to, ALU, Cisco, Juniper, Fujitsu, Calix, Adtran, Tellabs or Ciena platforms.
    • Knowledge of one or more routing protocols such as ISIS, OSPF, BGP.
