Job Summary:

The Clinical and Translational Research Center (CTRC) is seeking to hire a 0.8 FTE advanced practice provider (APP). The research APP may be a nurse practitioner (NP) or physician’s assistant (PA). This position is responsible for implementation of research study visits and procedures for research projects at the adult CTRC. The APP will be responsible for daily operations related to the performance of and billing for all procedures conducted. The APP must have excellent communication skills and work effectively both independently and as an integrated part of the CTRC team. The APP will work with multiple study teams using the CTRC across Departments and Divisions, including, but not \limited to, Endocrinology, Infectious Disease, Cardiology, Pulmonary, Neurology, GI, and Gerontology. In collaboration with and under the guidance of Principal Investigators (PIs), the APP will work to maintain the fidelity and integrity of research protocols, including categorizing and reporting adverse events, assuring compliance with the protocol, and troubleshooting problems that may arise.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performing medical history and physical examinations for research volunteers and complete accurate billing records in EPIC.

  • Conducting and documenting research tests and procedures including, but not limited to:

      Phlebotomy

      IV catheter placement

      Timed blood sampling

      Medication infusion

      Exercise stress testing

      12 lead ECGs

      Tissue sampling (muscle, fat, skin biopsies)

      Lumbar punctures

      Epithelial cell collections

  • Dispensing and/or administering study drugs as per protocol and assist with preparation of progress and safety reports for the CTRC and funding agencies.

  • Preparing adverse event and protocol deviation reports and communicating with PIs and study physicians on the occurrence of events and follow-up actions

  • Participating in all required training activities including, but not limited to, those related to human research protection, privacy and confidentiality of data, lab safety, billing, and administration

  • Participate in CTRC meetings and process improvement projects and write, edit, and update SOPs as well as complete CTRC APP productivity and scheduling reports, as requested.

  • Assist CTRC nursing staff during periods of high volume activity if no APP services are scheduled
