Hatch is seeking Senior Piping Engineers in its Pittsburgh or Tampa office. The Senior Piping Engineer will be part of an engineering team providing engineering services to large and small projects. The Senior Piping Engineer is broadly responsible for establishing system requirements, performing functional analyses, defining design criteria, preparing engineering calculations, technical specifications, data sheets and reports. In addition, the Piping Engineer is required to develop, or provide input into, 3D models and 2D drawings.
The Senior Piping Engineer reports to the Project Manager or the Engineering Manager depending on the size of the project. The Senior Piping Engineer will supervise junior engineers, intermediate engineers, designers, technicians and technologists on a project. Mentor young engineers as part of their career development programs.
This position reports to the Regional Manager, Mechanical & Piping.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist the Engineering Manager/Lead Mechanical Engineer with the delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope, cost and schedule.
- Assist in defining project scope
- Scope piping and valving requirements for the project
- Prepare technical specifications and datasheets for piping components and design criteria
- Provide input to 3D models and 2D drawings (incl. P&ID’s and Isometrics)
- Perform calculations for hydraulics, pipe selection and pipe stress analysis
- Provide input to engineering, operating and capital cost estimates.
- Participate in and contribute to design reviews.
- Assist in preparing proposals.
- Review and evaluate technical work prepared by junior engineers, intermediate engineers, designers, technicians and technologists.
Knowledge/Skill/Ability Requirements:
- Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Registration as a professional engineer (preferred)
- Ten years’ engineering experience in mining and metals projects.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Working knowledge of industry standards, regulations and codes pertinent to the mechanical engineering discipline.
- Ability to function as a member of a multidisciplinary team and coordinate mechanical activities between disciplines.
- Sound knowledge of 3D data centric design systems.
- Sound knowledge of engineering management systems.
- Ability to delegate tasks and effectively supervise others.
- Experience in the use of procedures and workflows in the execution of projects.
