Purpose/Introduction

The Finance Department aims to be a trusted partner that adds value by protecting the company’s financial integrity, guiding sound business decisions and offering enriching careers in a collaborative workplace. Finance oversees financial planning and fiscal management for Chevron Phillips Chemical including accounting, financing activities, planning, and tax compliance. The department provides financial information, policy analyses and recommendations that drive sound decision-making.

 

We are currently seeking a Financial Analyst to join the Corporate Accounting team.  The position is responsible for providing accounting, reporting and financial analysis for CPChem’s Research & Technology (R&T) and Legal & Public Affairs (L&PA) staff groups.  Although based out of our R&T Center in Kingwood, Texas, regular travel to our Headquarters office in The Woodlands is required. The position reports to the Corporate Accounting Supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Partnering with the R&T and L&PA staff groups to develop annual long-range budgets and monthly capital expenditure forecasts
  • Supporting the R&T and L&PA staff groups with monthly financial reporting, driver analysis, troubleshooting and ad-hoc queries as needed
  • Performing monthly financial close duties, including preparing journal entries and reconciling designated balance sheet accounts.  This desk specifically accounts for multiple licensing agreements, including deferred revenue and expenses, amortization schedules, and related invoicing activity.
  • Maintaining effective internal control processes and performing SOX management testing, including testing in-scope significant spreadsheets
  • Participates in continuous improvement initiatives and projects

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance (Business Degree with a concentration in Accounting is acceptable) (CPA considered a plus)
  • At least 3 years of experience in a Corporate Finance or Accounting role
  • Strong business analytical skills, accuracy, and attention to detail
  • Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Should be a self-starter, actively participate on teams, and proactively meet with customers.
  • Clear and tactful communicator

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with SAP FI/CO and Projects modules
  • Familiarity with procure-to-pay processes and capitalization rules.
  • Experience working with Planful or similar reporting software XX
  • Experience with Blackline journals, transaction matching, and account reconciliations
  • Experience creating and manipulating PowerBI, Tableau dashboards, or Alteryx
