Inside the Role
The Maintenance Supervisor for the Detroit Trans-Axle Business Unit leads and coordinates a team of maintenance employees responsible for planned and emergency maintenance activities in a manufacturing environment. This role is accountable for assigning work, prioritizing maintenance response, supporting equipment reliability, and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with production requirements. The supervisor fosters a respectful, safety-focused workplace while driving execution, communication, and continuous improvement across daily maintenance operations.Posting Information

Leadership:
- Coach and mentor the daily activities of direct reports
- Support and facilitate a safe and ethical working environment and culture
- Coach, motivate, and develop team members to higher levels of performance
- Clarify expectations, regularly communicate, provide ongoing performance feedback, and counsel assigned employees
- Track and monitor shift, team, and individual employee performance
- Utilize assigned team leader(s) in Lean Principles to promote and develop a continuous improvement culture
- Effectively support and follow all policies outlined in the contract, handbook, and/or policy guide
Functional (job specific):
- Pull Maximo work tickets, prioritize work, and assign to skilled trades employees
- Review TPM Planner projects (Items reviewed for jobs and PM’s)
- Run OT report for personnel working (OT Sheet)
- Conduct daily team meetings (Trades meeting, handout of Projects and PM’s) • Review larger projects with team (See, Touch and understand)
- Follow up and understand future jobs from Engineering • Conduct/ Schedule safety trainings (Maintenance Employees)
- Perform weekly Best/Enablon safety inspections
- Review Time cards and correct (Verify OT for the previous day) • OT programming (daily and weekend) • OT Scheduling (daily and weekend)
- Meet with skilled trades team for results (This is a follow up of the daily assignments)
- Review MAXIMO tickets for completion / follow up in system and with Emails if needed.
- Complete End of Shift notes for distribution
- Review End of Shift notes, along with any open emergency maintenance jobs, with incoming shift
Knowledge You Should Bring
- BS/BA and 4 years of relevant experience or 6+ years relevant experience in lieu of a degree
- Knowledge of or ability to apply Lean/Continuous improvement tools and principles
- Experience supervising maintenance employees in a manufacturing, industrial, or production environment
- Demonstrated ability to lead both emergency response and planned maintenance activities with a strong sense of urgency
- Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems troubleshooting
- Ability to prioritize work, assign resources, and make sound decisions under production-critical time constraints
- Experience using maintenance management systems to manage work orders, backlog, and maintenance records
- Strong leadership, communication, and employee coaching skills
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Prior experience leading teams or projects to achieve elevated levels of performance and engagement in a manufacturing or logistics setting is required
- Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to use tact and diplomacy to exchange information, handle sensitive issues, and translate, simplify, and clarify information for employees is required
- Must be willing and able to complete all required Supervisor training and apply learnings.
Exceptional Candidates Might Have
- Experience in an operational environment; i.e., manufacturing, distribution, or transportation preferred
- Leadership experience in a UAW or union-represented manufacturing environment
- Experience coordinating preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs
- Knowledge of CMMS systems, maintenance planning, and spare parts/inventory control
- Familiarity with root cause analysis and continuous improvement methods to reduce downtime
- Experience supporting production equipment reliability and cross-functional coordination with operations
- Technical certification, journeyman status, or equivalent hands-on maintenance experience is a plus
