A Brief Overview

The Head of ERM Operations is responsible for managing a team to ensure the optimized execution of impactful Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) strategies through the embedding of a consistent, value-adding and flexible risk management framework across the enterprise which enables a strong and capable second line to support the enterprise to achieve its strategic objectives.


What you will do

  • Risk Governance: Ensure that governance processes related to the enterprise risk management framework are optimized and proportionate, to support the enterprise in achieving its strategic objectives. Maintain ERM standards across the Enterprise, taking into account requirements of regulations, ratings agencies and the strategic imperatives of RGA. Work across RGA’s 1st and 2nd line to provide governance direction and follow-up to ensure requirements are being met. Collaborate with cross-functional risk teams to develop, refine, and embed risk appetite frameworks that align with enterprise-wide governance standards and strategic objectives. Define, maintain and implement the three lines model across the Enterprise, aligned to strong market practice while tailored to RGA’s business, including the operating model for second line risk oversight. Support the development of an annual Global Risk Services ERM plan including framework development priorities, functional strategy, and risk deep dives (as part of an integrated assurance approach). Maintains strong relationships with 3rd line to ensure risk management and assurance activities are efficiently coordinated across both lines. Support the 2nd line function of independent review and challenge, along with other members of the risk function, of 1st line risk assessments, including related risk treatment.
  • Risk Reporting (Management & Board, Regulatory, Agency and Investors): Responsible to facilitate and coordinate with all necessary enterprise stakeholders on the preparation of comprehensive yet concise 2nd line reporting for all necessary risk committees, boards, regulators, rating agencies and other stakeholders. Includes ERM section of Consolidated ORSA Report, quarterly ERM Report and various financial risk reports. Proactively identifies and delivers initiatives that enhance the efficiency and quality of enterprise risk reporting, including best practices and support to Business Segments.
  • ERM Software Platform: Manage a team responsible for the design and maintenance of technology, tools, processes and documentation used within the risk management framework to facilitate efficient and effective risk assessment, measurement, monitoring and reporting. Via the provision of suitable training and other engagement activities, ensure all associates involved in the risk management process across the enterprise utilize the ERM platform efficiently and consistently. Support the Enterprise to ensure all GRC tools are appropriately integrated and work effectively together and identify opportunities for automation of risk processes.
  • Risk Culture & Communications: Support the optimization of RGA’s Risk Culture by leading the Risk Communication Plan, including emails, videos, podcasts, and screen savers. Via the provision of suitable training and other engagement activities, ensure all associates involved in the risk management process across the enterprise understand the fundamentals of ERM and their respective responsibilities. Work with change management team for all ERM related communications. Establishing methodologies to measure and support risk culture, including regular risk culture surveys.
  • Support risk initiatives that span the risk taxonomy including supporting thematic risk reviews that span both financial and non-financial risk domains.
  • Lead, manage and mentor a team of direct reports to carry out the responsibilities of the team. Perform management duties, including, but not limited to hiring, training, evaluating, and coaching direct reports. Foster a positive and engaged work environment, develop associates and promote a continuous learning environment.
