Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Corrections Accountant Supervisor plays a critical role in overseeing the financial operations of the Central Inmate Benefit Fund (CIBF) for IDOC and IDJJ, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across all processes. The role is responsible for establishing procedures, reviewing and approving procurement requests, validating disbursements, and maintaining accurate accounting records while serving as a working supervisor for assigned staff. By leading process improvements, providing financial guidance, and managing vendor payments and reconciliations, this position ensures that fiscal integrity, transparency, and accountability are upheld. Essential Functions

  • Reviews and approves requests for purchase from the Central Inmate Benefit Fund (CIBF) for IDOC and IDJJ.
  • Serves as working supervisor.
  • Reviews and approves accounting reconciliations.
  • Maintains accounting records for facilities including general ledgers, trust funds, and other dedicated funds.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years college, with courses in business administration and accounting.
  • Requires two (2) years of professional experience in accounting, external auditing, budgetary planning and control or public accounting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers at least four (4) years of professional experience performing accounting functions related to general ledgers, budget forecasting and reconciliation.
  • Prefers at least four (4) years of professional experience utilizing automated financial systems.
  • Prefers a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Business Management or Economics.
  • Prefers at least six (6) months utilizing Systems, Applications, and Products in Data Processing (SAP).
