Position Summary

The Head Football Coach promotes an appreciation of physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The Head Football Coach provides leadership and supervision for team and individual sports, and works closely with the other staff and administration.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

 

•    Coordination and supervision of the football program and team.

•    Help students achieve gains in athletic skill and team performance.

•   Designing a training program and game program.

•   Organizing and supervising the coaching staff to assure that the program is properly implemented

•    Development of team rules, communicating them to the players and their parents, and equitably enforce them.

•    Ensure that student athletes meet eligibility rules.

•    Ensure that student athletes adhere to training rules, lettering policies, grade requirements, and rules of behavior.

•    Ensure the continual supervision of student athletes on the field, in conditioning, and in locker and shower rooms.

•    Ensure that health and safety precautions are observed during all activities.

•    Immediately report all major injuries incurred during practice sessions or competition to the Administration, Activities Director, and Principal.

•    Assist in the proper purchasing, inventory, and care of equipment.

•    See that district policies are observed during all activities.

•    Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas and techniques.

•    Obtain advance approval of the Head Coach for all activities and expenditures.

•    Other duties as assigned by the Head Coach, Activities Director, Principal, or other Administrative Staff.

 

Qualifications, Competencies & Strengths

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s Degree preferred

Experience: 1-2 years of experience coaching student athletes in an academic setting is preferred

Special Skills:

 

•    NFHS and Concussion certified required

•    Demonstrated ability to participate in physically demanding athletic activities

•    Possesses knowledge of effective behavior management methods

•    Ability to exercise good judgment and work in a dynamic environment

•    Professional and friendly disposition

 

Type of fingerprint clearance: Shall be fingerprint checked pursuant to A.R.S 15-512

Physical functions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; run; jump; stretch; stand; sit; use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds. The employee may occasionally climb stairs, ropes or ladders. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus and peripheral vision. The employee must have the ability to demonstrate proper techniques and skills needed for athletic participation.

 

Equipment used: Athletic and weigh training equipment.

Work Environment: The work environment is a standard football field and other athletic practice and event settings. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but occasionally high depending upon student population and activities. The employee is regularly exposed to hot outdoor weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to bodily fluids and/or bloodborne pathogens.

 

Travel: This position requires the ability to travel to and from school events and activities. Must be available to accompany choirs and students for choir-related tours, festivals, competitions, and other events
