Description
We are currently seeking an experienced Chief Engineer to join the cruise vessel Paspaley Pearl.Embarkation is required as soon as possible. The contract is 10 weeks on / 10 weeks off. Candidates must have prior experience serving as a sole Chief Engineer and hold a valid Chief Engineer Certificate of Competency (preferably Unlimited), along with strong references and recommendations.
Position Summary
- Overall responsibility for the entire technical operations and equipment onboard, including engineering, electrical and mechanical divisions.
- Ensuring that all systems and equipment of every sub division of the technical department are operating correctly and are maintained to the highest possible standards in order to support the safe navigation of the ship. That all are in accordance with Company policies, any National or International standards and in compliance with Public Health or any other prescribed regulations.
- Ensures proper coordination with different technical parties and cooperation with all ship’s departments.
- Reporting to the Captain and to Company Marine Technical Department.
- Subordinates – Engine department.
- Participates in crew and passenger safety drills according to instructions.
- Must always comply with the Company’s safety and pollution prevention regulations and operating procedures.
- Leads by example by taking care of Health and Safety of self and others.
- Ensures that all work equipment, personal protective equipment, chemicals and safety devices are being used correctly. Delivering training, guidance and supervision on how to use and maintain them where necessary.
- Valid STCW95 certification.
- Valid CoC A-III/2.
- Appropriate certification as required by regulations.
- Extensive experience as a Chief Engineer is essential.
- Must have a strong ability to detect and identify the cause of machinery faults.
- Physically and medically fit.
- Moral integrity is required.
- Public Health, Sanitation and Environmental training courses.
- Alaska experience is a plus.
- Public Health, Coast Guard and Port State Control experience.
Excellent fluent English (verbal, written and technical). English is the working and safety language on board. This also includes the ability to give and receive instructions in verbal and written forms and to effectively and efficiently engage with guests and crew members. Additional languages are considered beneficial.
Computer knowledge:
Good knowledge of AMOS and Microsoft office applications.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
Required to stand, walk long distances, reaching and sitting. Repetitive motion of bending, going up and down stairs, climbing ladders. Lifting or pushing of up to 50lbs. The position requires overtime work and irregular schedules. Works in the Engine Control Room, Engine spaces with noise, light traffic, distracting environments as well as an office environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Responsible to lead the safe and effective operation and maintenance to the highest possible standards of all main, auxiliary and domestic machinery and technical equipment.
- Overall responsible for the safe and efficient operation, repair and maintenance of the following (to include but not limited to):
- Main Engines, Diesel Generators, Propulsion Machinery and associated auxiliary equipment.
- Black and Grey Water Collecting and Treatment System.
- Boilers and Steam Plant.
- Oily Bilge Water Separator.
- Sea water cooling system, fresh/technical water system.
