Position Overview
The Director for Advanced Practice Providers is responsible for the oversight of Regional Advanced Practice Providers and the associated comprehensive care to patients in the hospital setting. The Director will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to oversee growth, staffing, standardization, quality, and process initiatives in collaboration with APP leads and under the supervision of the Chief Medical Officers (supporting Legacy-LVPG), Chief Nursing Officer, the Associate Chief Physician Executive of JMG (supporting Legacy-LVPG) and reporting directly to the SVP of Advanced Practice Providers.
The Director functions in an expanded role within the guidelines of the Nurse Practice Act, Nursing and Medical Staff Policies and Procedures and in accordance with clinical protocols. The Director is granted affiliate privileges by the respective medical staff (s), which list specific clinical protocols and procedures and are reviewed bi-annually. This position will have a variable clinical and administrative effort based on size and complexity of the region. It will work closely with appropriate service line and institute leadership.
Essential Functions:
The specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- In collaboration with senior leadership, explore, recommend, develop, and implement new opportunities to optimize clinical care and enable better utilization of APPs with top of scope practice to drive Jefferson's growth, enhance revenue and drive quality, safety, and throughput initiatives.
- Direct and prioritize resource allocation to ensure that service needs are met, while maintaining Jefferson's quality standards.
- Represent all APPs, ensuring that they are included in multi-disciplinary activities by chairing or serving as members of various committees that contribute to the organization’s clinical care.
- Represents APP practice on appropriate committees
- Works collaboratively with multidisciplinary leadership on unit initiatives and departmental support for patient flow, policies/protocols, levels of care, etc.
- Participates in operational and strategic planning with senior leadership & SVP APPs for APP inpatient program.
- Oversee the overall operation of the APP practice, ensuring appropriate and efficient provision of services to meet clinical-programs and Jefferson goals and objectives.
- Oversee the development and management of the APP budget in accordance with institutional financial goals and expectations.
- Manages premium compensation and outsourced labor.
- Oversees APP performance, productivity, and budgetary reporting.
- Management oversight of the APP (Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, Certified Nurse Midwives, and Certified Nurse Anesthetist) practice.
- Establish standards for the hiring, onboarding, credentialing, privileging, performance appraisal/competency assessment, and clinical practice of APPs.
- Establish job expectations, performance standards, and methods for measurement/monitoring of standards for APPs.
- Coordinate with Human Resources and physician, nursing, and administrative leadership in the development and implementation of policies and procedures that apply to APP staff.
- Ensure that Nurse Practitioners/APNs practice the tenets of Nursing’s care-delivery model and adhere to ANCC Magnet standards, including participation in Nursing’s shared-governance structure, peer review, and RN-satisfaction surveys.
- Coach, mentor, and develop staff through innovative mechanisms (e.g., peer reviews) designed to improve performance.
- Maintain awareness of team engagement; identify and respond to key challenges and areas of opportunity.
- Develop and maintain effective recruitment and retention strategies for APP’s
- Identify and develop process and outcome metrics specific to the practice environments to ensure the highest quality of care and patient satisfaction.
- Ensure the completion of focused/ongoing professional-practice evaluation with appropriate leadership.
- Engage APPs in developing and implementing process-improvement initiatives, while anticipating downstream impacts of the changes; communicate and collaborate with stakeholders regularly and accordingly.
- Promote clinical inquiry by facilitating research and translating research findings into practice, utilizing an evidence-based practice (EBP) approach.
- Ensure integration with the hospitals and the clinical departments’ QA/Safety structures and processes.
