New Graduates 

New registered nurse (RN) graduates benefit from a comprehensive, personalized support system. All RNs in their first nursing role are invited to participate in a Nurse Residency Program alongside nursing orientation. The program provides socialization and support, enhances clinical judgment, and promotes professional development. 

The Cath/IR Pre-Post Unit, equipped with 18 beds, specializes in cardiac care while also addressing dialysis, vascular disease, and a range of other diagnoses. The team fosters a supportive and collaborative environment, emphasizing a strong team culture. Nursing staff in this unit play a pivotal role in preparing and recovering procedural patients. Additionally, they actively contribute to bedside procedures, including TEEs and cardioversions, by administering sedation and closely monitoring patients. Certification opportunities on the unit include PCCN. While the unit currently lacks specific designations or national recognition, its commitment to a team-oriented culture and high-quality patient care is evident. The unit distinguishes itself by being closed on weekends and holidays.

Shift: 4 days/week, M-F 630a-5p. On-call requirement, must live within 30-minute response time radius. Call is roughly one evening/week and every fourth weekend.

Nursing skills gained on this unit: 

• Obtain PCCN certification 
• Learn how to prepare & recover patients in a procedural environment 
• Assist with bedside procedures such as TEEs and cardioversions by administering sedation & monitoring patients 
• Refine time management and critical thinking skills

Qualifications 

• Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelors of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
• Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
• Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
• Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
