Electric Propulsion & Energy - let’s introduce ourselves
The Electric Propulsion & Energy department at Volvo Cars is implementing cutting edge technology in our products and services. We specialize in developing complete hardware and software solutions for power electronics, traction batteries, thermal management, charging systems, and electric drivelines. We aim at leading in sustainable e-propulsion actively contributing to carbon neutrality, circular economy, and ethical business.
Within the Battery Control & ECU Platform department, we oversee the development of basic software, application software, and ECU hardware for our Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) batteries.
Currently, we are seeking a dedicated colleague to lead the BMCS team (Battery Management Charging System), responsible for developing and implementing the BMS & GCCC hardware functionality. What You’ll Do
As a key member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in driving the development and implementation of essential technologies for our products. Your responsibilities will encompass a diverse range of tasks.
You will be responsible for understanding the scope of upcoming enabler work and collaborating closely with stakeholders, for example architects, to assist in decision-making for enabling technologies. This involves developing electronics strategies tailored to future battery configurations and emerging methodologies for charging devices.
Your Main responsibilities:
- Lead the development efforts in mechanical, electrical, and electronic aspects towards Battery Management System (BMS) systems and Charging communication devices.
- Oversee interactions with suppliers, ensuring compliance, adhering to timelines, and managing costs related to our team's products.
- Collaborate closely with Battery Hardware teams, Battery Software teams, Procurement, ELP, and EMC teams within Volvo Cars.
- Engage early with Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers to ensure smooth integration and alignment with project goals.
- Support cost reduction initiatives within the team's scope.
- Develop sourcing strategies for BMS and GCCC systems together with Procurement.
- Manage team priorities to ensure alignment with project objectives.
- Provide gate reporting for multiple products in collaboration with Design Project Managers.
- Implement strategies and develop action plans for risk mitigation.
- Oversee design change approvals and manage deviations from established plans and processes.
Lastly, you will lead the development of Engineering Statements of Work (ESOWs) toward future sourcing based on agreed strategies, contributing to the long-term success and innovation of our products and services.

Education and Skills
- You have an academic background and education on MSc or BSc level or equivalent.
- Experience from product development and project management within the automotive industry.
- Documented experience from leadership positions.
- Knowledge/Experience in ISO 26262, especially part 5.
- Fluent in English, spoken and written.
Meritorious
- Work experience from the automotive industry, preferably within Volvo Cars.
