Position Overview
To assist the foreperson with maintenance of the worksite to maintain a safe and compliant work environment.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
- Perform servicing and maintenance on plant equipment as needed, using ladders to access platforms, and landings. Use of hand, power tolls and a welder are a plus.
- Groundwork such as cleaning and changing conveyor belts, changing or cleaning conveyor screens and other labor work will be performed.
- Safely and efficiently operate heavy equipment such as a bob cat, skid steer, loader, and man lift.
- Complete cleanup assignments mainly with hand-held tools; work safely around moving and/or rotating equipment while using the required personal protective safety equipment.
- Perform a pre-operational check, servicing of and operation of all assigned mobile equipment.
- Operate light mobile equipment as trained and directed.
- Perform cleanup with water avoiding unsafe conditions of water on motors and other electrical equipment and be able to work and move hoses safely while standing on slippery surfaces.
- Keep Manager informed of any problems affecting assigned work.
- Be aware of environmentally sensitive areas and be alert to correct environmental problems that may develop in the assigned work area.
- When working with co-workers, constant eye contact will be maintained when backing, communicating using hand signals or other movements.
- Properly follow all company policies and OSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment.
- Follow directions of Manager as to daily tasks and expectations for each specific project or jobsite.
- Perform daily pre-and-post inspections with appropriate documentation in compliance with company policies.
- Assist in training less-experienced employees on the proper operations, servicing and repair of equipment to further their abilities.
- Must be able to operate equipment safely, as this is a safety sensitive position.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Education/Experience
- Minimum high school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- Previous related experience in maintenance in the construction field and/or training preferred.
Work Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must be able to complete required needed training within 90 days of employment.
- Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.
- Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined per company policy.
- Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
- Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
- Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA. Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to, for this position is: Face Shield, Safety (hard toe) Shoes and Safety Vest.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- Learn how to grease motors and gear boxes.
- Learn how to repair torn or damaged conveyor belts.
- Learn how to shovel safely and to use correct lifting techniques.
- Welding, plumbing, and electrical skills are needed.
- Learn how to perform a competent work place examination to identify hazards before starting work.
Physical Requirements
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
• Availability to work any 8 to 12 hour rotating shift, including nights and weekends.
• Ability to walk or stand greater than one third of the time, or sit no greater than a third of the time.
• Ability to reach with hands and arms; use hands and fingers to handle and feel.
• Ability to climb, balance, kneel, stoop, crouch or crawl.
- Ability to wear hearing protection in areas of high sound levels.
- Able to move/carry objects up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
