Overview
The Director of Operations serves as a key leader within the East Cleveland Corps, supporting the Corps Officers and advancing the mission of The Salvation Army through effective daily operations. This role oversees administrative and fiscal functions, leads the Operations Department, and manages special events.
The Director also supports external relations, media engagement, and interdepartmental coordination to ensure alignment across all areas. Additionally, this position contributes to local revenue generation efforts to sustain mission-driven services. The ideal candidate demonstrates professionalism, discretion, adaptability, and a commitment to ongoing development.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Administration (including Human Resources, Fundraising & Finance)
• Serve as the person-in-charge, in the absence of the Corps Officers• Assist with the development, coordination, implementation, enforcement, and evaluation of corps operations, including all policies and procedures.• Maintain Human Resources, attendance records and process payroll.• Participate in and/or conduct employment interviews.
• Assist with regular financial processes (securing, counting, deposits, reports), as directed• Oversee the compilation of accurate, timely statistical reporting to DHQ and funders.• Explore potential funding sources. Assist in the preparation and review of funding requests, preparing reports. • Attend conferences as recommended by the Corps Officers.• Process & oversee all requests for Court-ordered or School-mandated Community Service• Serve as primary contact for In-Kind Donations coordination• Process requisitions as appropriate.• Assist Corps Officers with coordination of annual Red Kettle Campaign
Office Management
• Give direct supervision to Operations Assistants• Maintain main office and all office equipment• Centralize the filing of official administrative documents• Prepare correspondence, as needed
• Answer and direct phone calls• Ensure general files are up-to-date and in order, including Corps inventories.• Manage mail, incoming and outgoing• Manage multiple calendars• Serve as a secretary to committee meetings as assigned, record minutes, send notices, etc.• Order office supplies and equipment; prepare estimates and requisitions, as directed.
Special Events
• Provide oversight and coordination of all special events • Support events and campaings as needed
Facilities
• Market, generate revenue, review, and process requests for facility rentals, to meet quarterly targets• Responsible for ensuring events are adequately staffed and resourced with equipment• Give direct supervision to Lead Facilities Assistant (or equivalent) and Facilities department and Donation Driver & Corps’ vehicle fleet• Ensure required licenses are kept current• Maintain registrations & repair records for all vehicles assigned to East Cleveland• Responsible for facility management including scheduled & preventative maintenance planning, supply ordering and project planning• Develop and enforce daily facility maintenance schedule• Schedule staff as necessary for snow removal and special events coverage• Conduct Health & Safety compliance checks monthly
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Involvement in the total Corps program with willingness to help in all areas as needed, including dining room, outdoor/indoor activities, children with problems, client engagement, etc.• Promote observance of the moral and ethical codes affecting entire East Cleveland Corps Community.• Attend and contribute to Department Head & General Staff Meetings.• Responsible for sharing with the Corps Commanding Officer all matters of mutual concern relating to the total welfare of the Corps Program.• Assist with all activities related to the Red Kettle effort, under the direction of the Corps Officers, including recruiting, training and instructing potential employees• Serve as a member of the Operations Team, during disaster emergencies• Perform related duties, as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director of Operations will provide direct supervision of:
• Lead Facilities Assistant• Donations Driver• Community Service Workers/Students• Operations Assistants• Assigned Interns• Department Heads, in the absence of the Corps Officers
Qualifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor’s degree in business/organizational management or high school diploma with at least 5 years’ experience in the operations of a Salvation Army Corps• Human Resource and organizational skills are preferred• Highly developed interpersonal leadership skills.• Proficient use of Microsoft Office applic
