Job Summary:
Monitors and evaluates the performance of sterile processing activities in order to ensure quality of work. Processes and sterilizes surgical and hospital instruments and equipment. Assembles surgical instrument sets and trays. Distributes patient care supplies and equipment. This position is represented by SEIU.
Job Requirements:
Education and Work Experience:
- High School Education/GED or equivalent: Preferred
- Associate’s/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred
- Three years' technical experience: Preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
- Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST): Required
Essential Functions:
- Demonstrates an understanding of the principles of aseptic and sterile techniques. Ensures that supplies and equipment are used and maintained in a safe, cost-effective manner. Maintains responsibility for accurately and responsively performing a wide range of complex clinical tasks and problems.
- Performs some technical and/or professional duties within department. Follows procedures, selects methods, techniques and analytical approaches. Supports a clinical function or family by performing prep work to assist clinical staff and department or unit management with carrying out daily clinical operations.
- Evaluates performance of department personnel in cooperation with Director. Exercises independent judgment within defined parameters. Makes decisions regarding own work and only elevates the most challenging questions to more senior staff. Works under minimal supervision.
- Performs a variety of confidential clerical duties including, but not limited to, word processing, data entry, typing, filing, answering telephone, photocopying and opening mail. Reviews, checks and/or directs the work of junior staff.
- Provides feedback to Director for annual department budget needs. Provides feedback to Director regarding staffing needs and patterns according to program service. Interviews and recommends candidates for hire. Orients new employees to departmental practices and policies.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
