Sentara Health is hiring an experienced Sr. Laboratory Technologist to work full days in the Education department.

Job responsibility is to understand laboratory tests and interpret test results using scientific knowledge of the principles of the test procedures and disease processes. Works together with management team to develop and execute a formal laboratory training program. Provides leadership in planning, delivering, and evaluating the orientation, training and continuing education for staff and students. Serves as a champion in advancing patient safety initiatives and a role model for Lab Services. Assists with the coordination of educational classes and in-services to obtain knowledge and stay current on topics impacting Lab Services. Ensures that all competencies reflect current regulatory standards. Follows up with the development and revisions of policies, procedures, and job aids. This position has flexible hours to support staff on all shifts and schedules

Required Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree Medical Laboratory Science or in chemical, physical or bio logical science

- ASCP or AMT certification

- 3 years of laboratory experience in Cytology, Histology, Cytogenetics, or Molecular

Job Summary

Performs laboratory testing and interprets test results using scientific knowledge and principles of test procedures and disease processes; recommends contingency testing. Directly responsible for developing, maintaining and managing daily technical operations including staff training and education, implementation of instrumentation, accreditation readiness. Project plans and timelines are developed with the Laboratory Manager approval. Responsible for the immediate supervision, training, and competency assessment of laboratory staff and students in a 24/7 environment. Ensures accurate orders for proficiency surveys and accurate submission of survey data. Collects PI data, conducts analysis and documents progress. Maintains current policies and procedures in department and ensures completion of electronic documents according to established assignments and timelines. Demonstrates fiscal responsibility.
