Site Reliability Engineering Lead

Location: Remote USA. This role can be performed anywhere from the United States. 

The Role:

The Infrastructure Engineering team is responsible for building and maintaining cloud architectures that power GoPro’s subscription business and photo & video storage services. Behind every GoPro mobile app session and every automatic upload from a GoPro camera are compute, network, and data services that we operate for a global customer base.  

From developing and maintaining infrastructure code in Terraform to building the next generation of developer platform tools, we enable the delivery of software that sets GoPro apart. 

 

What You Will Do: 

• Technical Lead for a small group of engineers working closely with Product and Engineering teams to design reliability and observability into new software releases.
• Champion initiatives across our teams that continually improve the reliability, observability, and price-performance of cloud services.
• Own sustainable incident response, escalation, and postmortem processes across the organization.
• Partner with infrastructure owners to enable, plan and execute zero-downtime upgrades and maintenance activities.
• Own cloud cost tracking and cost optimization initiatives.
• Set an example with excellent operational documentation and tested procedures.
• Communicate across verticals to define key business metrics, and work with infrastructure and development teams toward measuring 100% of those metrics.
• Ensure regular testing of cloud systems for performance and failure resiliency to SLA.
• Participate in on-call rotations as secondary support.

 

Skills We’re Excited About: 

• We are looking for an exceptional hands-on contributor with 8+ years of demonstrable experience and a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or another quantitative field.
• You practice a rigorous, metrics-driven approach to reliability engineering.
• You have substantial experience operating 24x7 production web services serving millions of customers.
• You have familiarity with our core technical stack or their equivalents, including AWS, Kubernetes, Datadog, Ruby on Rails, and Python.
• You have a significant background in software engineering and/or systems engineering.
• You are familiar with proven design patterns and common approaches to solving scale challenges in distributed data and network systems.
• You are a strong problem solver with meticulous attention to detail who can advocate for novel solutions to entrenched problems.
• You’re skilled in written and verbal English communication skills with an ability to communicate in a clear, collaborative, open-minded, and effective manner with both technical and non-technical peers.
