The Chief Accounting Officer (CAO) is a key financial leader and a close partner to the CFO. They are responsible for the vision, leadership, strategic direction, and performance of the global controllership function. The CAO oversees the design and execution of financial reporting, consolidation, internal controls, certain shared services, tax, and corporate, and technical accounting functions and the development and implementation of related processes, systems, and policies. The selected candidate will lead accounting policy and ensure compliance with GAAP and other applicable rules and SEC regulations and report on and review quarterly financial reporting with the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors.

They will have strong business acumen and a vision for a progressive, proactive controllership organization which partners with management and operating teams. To fulfill this mandate effectively, the CAO will work closely with counterparts in areas such as corporate financial planning and analysis, operational accounting, finance, internal and external audit, vendors, operations, and business development. The individual we seek is an exceptionally talented and broad-gauged leader with the potential to grow into more senior roles over time.
The CAO will be located at Radius headquarters in Portland, OR.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage the monthly and quarterly closing process and ensure regulatory compliance, conformity with relevant accounting standards and financial reporting requirements, and effective financial controls.
- Oversee global general ledger and certain shared services functions. Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and conformity of financial reporting with professional accounting standards and best practices in accordance with US GAAP, as well as SEC regulations.
- Oversee the Tax function, including preparation of the GAAP tax provision, and income and indirect tax functions.
- Collaborate with Business Unit Finance VPs, Operations CFO, VP of FP&A, Treasurer, VP of Investor Relations, VP of Non-Trade Procurement, SVP Legal, and other leaders to determine appropriate accounting for critical business decisions.
- Manage the day-to-day engagement of external auditors, while owning primary responsibility for the company’s views on technical accounting matters.
- Partner with the Chief Financial Officer to determine accounting implications of business decisions. Provide support to the business on accounting and reporting issues, ensuring compliance with accounting policy. Provide relevant, timely, accurate financial information and analysis to support business decisions.
- Lead the development and maintenance of control policies, standards and procedures that comply with all regulatory guidelines (e.g., Sarbanes-Oxley, SEC regulations) and promote cost-effective risk mitigation within predetermined tolerance levels. Keep abreast of changes in accounting standards and develop recommendations regarding how the company should address such changes, leading planning, and implementation of new accounting standards.
- Prepare reports for and represent the accounting department at Audit Committee Meetings, with primary responsibility for the quarterly SEC filings.
- Develop, motivate, and retain top talent. Develop talent that can be exported to other parts of the organization. Effectively apply performance management and talent development processes for a distributed, global team.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 10+ years of experience as a sitting Chief Accounting Officer, Controller or Assistant Controller
- 5+ years with Big 4 accounting firm, preferably including international and/or head office rotations.
- A demonstrated track record of success in an industrial manufacturing business of relevant scale and complexity.
- Experience leading sophisticated accounting teams at scale.
- A bachelor's degree or international equivalent in accounting, finance, or other related discipline. Appropriate certification, such as a CPA, CMA or an international equivalent is required. An MBA or other advanced degree is preferred.
