Position Summary:
As a Drilling Assistant, you will be responsible for providing assistance to the drillers and department managers as well as classifying and maintaining soil samples. You will also prepare equipment for upcoming projects and fill out boring and truck/rig maintenance logs.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Travel safely to various job sites in a company provided vehicle; maintain company vehicle (schedule oil changes, inside/outside upkeep and complete monthly vehicle inspection reports)
  • Assist driller/drill team with performing drilling services and well installations by operating drilling equipment to bore exploratory vertical holes into the earth to evaluate soil types and strength characteristics
  • May operate miscellaneous drilling equipment including rods, augers, etc.
  • Have daily communication with the Driller Crew Chief and Department Managers
  • Clean trucks and drill rigs
  • Prepare equipment for upcoming projects
  • Complete accurate and detailed boring logs and update existing logs as needed
  • Perform manual labor by assembling, operating and disassembling equipment
  • Communicate daily with Geotechnical and Drilling staff and clients both verbally and electronically
  • Complete and prepare accurate and detailed field reports on a daily basis
  • Follow all company safety procedures and policies
  • Other tasks as assigned

Qualifications & Skills:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Must be at least 18 years old for entry onto job sites and to drive a company vehicle
  • Valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record
  • Outdoor work experience
  • Preferred: prior experience as a drilling assistant, field/engineering technician, construction or related experience
  • Preferred: Active Commercial Driver’s License (class B minimum)
  • Preferred: OSHA 10-hour
  • Ability to read, write and use technology including phone and computer
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and organize data
  • Ability to accurately complete daily field paperwork as prescribed
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, detailed reports, short correspondence and memos

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:

  • Days and hours for this position are typically Monday-Friday with some weekends, holidays and overtime as needed
  • Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions such as wet and/or humid environments, extreme cold and/or heat, dusty and noisy work environments
  • Field work on outside construction sites involving long-term standing, sitting and repetitive motions
  • Some weekend, overtime work and/or overnight work and travel may be required with work days, ranging from 8-12 hours
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents, accurately complete field testing paperwork and follow direction from others to complete tasks as assigned
