Within DCF, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office is recognized as the single state authority for substance abuse and mental health services. The Office of SAMH is statutorily responsible for the planning, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive statewide system of care for the prevention, treatment, and recovery of children and adults with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders.

Florida State Hospital (FSH) is a mental health treatment facility owned and operated by the State of Florida and is part of the Department of Children and Families. The department’s mission is to “work in partnership with local communities to protect the vulnerable, promote strong and economically self-sufficient families, and advance personal and family recovery and resiliency.”

MULTI-HIRE OPPORTUNITY

This is a highly responsible and professional position that will serve as an Institutional Security Specialist Shift Supervisor. This position will collaborate with each section within the state facilities and be required to use independent judgement, take initiative in carrying out duties and responsibilities and should be extraordinarily detail oriented. 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • The applicant selected to fill this position shall be required to submit and pass a pre-employment medical examination including a Drug Screen. This position requires lifting, pulling, and squatting, sometimes in excess of 40 pounds. Duties of this position require the incumbent to be knowledgeable of and utilize the principles of Total Quality Management. This position works under the direction of the Emergency Services Director.
  • The incumbent of this position is responsible for supervising employees in Institutional Security Specialist I positions who ensure the safety and security of residents and staff at Florida State Hospital. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that all subordinates treat people served in a respectful manner that preserves their dignity. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that all subordinates develop and maintain a professional relationship with people served and do not exceed relationship boundaries by developing personal friendships or sharing personal information. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that all subordinates perform duties according to their position description and performance expectations. The incumbent is responsible for all security personnel for the assigned shift.
  • COMMUNICATE:
    • The mission and values of Florida Department of Children & Families, Florida State Hospital, Service Area and Security to subordinates.
    • Each performance expectation, operating procedures, guidelines, and any changes that may occur.
    • Reviewing subordinates’ documentation and providing feedback on accuracy.
  • ENSURE:
    • Physically and emotionally safe and secure environment for people served.
    • All subordinates receive required education and training.
    • Shift procedures are managed by scheduling employee, assigning work tasks, and orienting staff.
    • Equipment accountability.
