Job Duties: The Special Projects Manager works under the administrative direction of the Planning & Development Manager. This position will lead the Planning & Development section in planning and design for Division of Arkansas Heritage’s capital improvement projects. This position will also be responsible for capital improvement and special projects for the Division of Arkansas State Parks, as well as the Division of Arkansas Heritage. This position serves as a member of an interdisciplinary planning team and is responsible for assisting the facility staff, architects and engineers with the planning and development of new facilities and the repair/renovation/restoration of existing structures and infrastructure. Other job duties include preparing/reviewing plans and specifications, formulating site development design concepts, master plans and site development plans, researching and assimilating information for special projects, records, and reports, preparing and monitoring project budgets and expenditures, as well as preparing funding requests. Some in-state & out-of-state, overnight travel is required. Applicant must be able to traverse rough terrain.
Applicants must meet or exceed the following qualifications: The formal education equivalent of a bachelor's degree in, landscape architecture, resource management or a related field; plus, five years of experience in park planning, historical preservation, construction administration, or a related field. Three years of supervisory experience required.
Preferred Qualifications: The formal education equivalent of a bachelor's degree in architecture; architectural studies, landscape architecture, construction administration and landscape architectural studies. Work experience during enrollment in preferred degree programs will be considered.

Summary
The Heritage Agency Director is responsible for the planning and direction of the overall operation of a Department of Arkansas Heritage agency, providing direction to lower level managers, performing administrative duties and coordinating activities with other work units within and outside the department. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.Functions
Plans and directs the overall operation of the Agency within the Department by coordinating and evaluating all aspects of programs and services to ensure goals and objectives of division are met. Works within broad guidelines to develop programs and services to provide efficient operations; establishes policies and regulations for the agency with the advice and support of the Department of Arkansas Heritage director; implements departmental policies and programs, and recommends legislation affecting division.
