Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field.

 

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:  Department of Defense Secret security clearance is preferred at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities for this Position

As a Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer at Pittsfield, Massachusetts, you’ll be a member of a highly motivated cross functional team responsible for overcoming daily production challenges and continuously delivering on commitments.  You are encouraged to apply if you have the knowledge and skills to develop, implement and maintain methods, operation sequence and processes in the manufacturing or fabrication of parts, components, sub-assemblies and final assemblies. 

 

In this position, the Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer will develop strong communications with internal teams to estimate manufacturing costs, determine time standards and make recommendations for tooling and process requirements of new or existing product lines.  At GDMS, we continually seek ways to develop and improve manufacturing methods, utilizing our team’s knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards.

 

Primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provide daily on-the-floor technical support working closely with Cell Leads, Supervisors, and fellow Engineers
  • Provide technical guidance to troubleshoot and remediate problems with existing production processes to ensure throughput
  • Develop and update existing manufacturing processes. Determine in-process testing and product final inspection requirements
  • Write process deviation and rework instructions as required.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining key process documentation such as Work Instructions, Workbooks, Routings, among others. Support the development of process documentation for new product(s) and changes to existing product(s)
  • Identify and improve the results of manufacturing and operational processes to improve efficiencies, reduce cost and increase customer satisfaction
  • Participate in the development and analysis of processes, tooling, and effective manufacturing concepts of basic to complex electromechanical devices
  • Engage in Production Readiness activities. Conduct reviews to ensure that the documentation, production processes, test methods, production specifications, tooling and training are in place to support a controlled production environment
  • Responsible for improving manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout
  • Responsible for the creation of label templates in Brady Workstation or equivalent software
  • Analyze new designs for manufacturability; collaborate to improve product design related to enable process
  • Promote clear process communication and support training of assembly and fabrication personnel
  • Provide critical input, analysis, support, and approval on engineering documentation; participate in design reviews
  • Develop expertise in all GDMS products, their design details, product structure (BOM), manufacturing processes, and associated risks
  • Provide input on capital equipment purchases including tools and software

 What you bring to the table:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, a related specialized area or field, or equivalent experience
  • Clear understanding of manufacturing engineering concepts, principles, and theories
  • Clear understanding with manufacturing processes and electrical/mechanical components, systems and applications
