This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight.

As part of a hardworking team of diverse engineers, you will be responsible for engineering, designing, and installing electrical harnesses for rocket engines. This is a hands-on position that will involve you in all aspects of engineering, design, fabrication, installation, and testing. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and require your dedicated dedication and detailed attention toward safe and repeatable spaceflight.

This development team is tightly knit and very collaborative, with a variety of experience and backgrounds. We care about the success of our peers and are eager to help each other learn and grow. Together we will build high-reliability, safety-critical avionics solutions.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Design of electrical harnesses for power distribution, communication, and high-speed data signal
  • Selection of harness components and hardware, connectors, backshells, cable, and wire
  • Understanding and application of EMI/RFI and harness shielding
  • Build 3D routed harness data files applying Creo (Pro/Engineer) Cabling and Creo Schematics and/or Zuken
  • Create harness detail and installation drawings including 2D flat harness drawings from the 3D harness data sets
  • Design and integration of harness support brackets
  • Support design configuration development and trade studies
  • Develop harness routing requirements, interfaces, specifications, and process controls
  • Provide technical mentorship for hardware installation
  • Active involvement in the assembly and testing of cables and harnesses
  • Maintain and report on activity schedule, budget, and technical status
  • Find opportunities for improvements and operational cost and schedule savings
  • Coordinate harness activities between business units about ICDs, best practices, and standards
  • Inspire changes to company-wide documents such as harness construction specs and harness installation specs.
  • Guide other harness team members as to best-harnessing practices
  • Initiate and draft harness qualification and test plans.

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. degree or higher in Mechanical or an appropriate engineering field
  • 10+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience with Creo / ProCabling is highly desired; equivalent other software will be considered if all other required qualifications are met
  • Understanding and application of wire derating analysis
  • Familiar with existing applicable harness standards
  • Strong electrical/mechanical design and integration skills using 3-D CAD software.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications

  • IPC/WHMA-A-620A, NASA-STD-8739.4
  • Prefer experience with Creo / Windchill and Creo Schematics
  • Experience with other high-end CAD routing software such as Unigraphics NX Electrical and Mechanical Routing
  • Knowledge of harness fabrication and installation processes.
  • Experience with launch vehicle or spacecraft mechanical systems.
Compensation range for on site WA applicants is$167,088—$233,923.20 USD
