Senior IT Enterprise Architect

About the role

The Senior IT Enterprise Architect provides strategic and technical leadership in evaluating, designing, and integrating new and evolving technologies across the enterprise. This role partners closely with IT leadership, cybersecurity, infrastructure, application, and business stakeholders to ensure technology investments align with business strategy, scalability, security, and operational excellence. The role is a key contributor within a dynamic, forward looking IT leadership team, driving innovation while maintaining architectural discipline and standards.

Essential Duties: (Approximate % of Time Spent)

Enterprise Architecture & Strategy (~30%)

  • Define and maintain enterprise architecture principles, standards, and reference architectures with a strong emphasis on emerging technologies (e.g., cloud native platforms, automation, AI enabled services, modern integration patterns).
  • Translate business strategy into actionable technology roadmaps that balance innovation, risk, cost, and value.   

New Technology Evaluation & Innovation (~25%)

  • Research, evaluate, and pilot new and emerging technologies; develop business cases and architectural recommendations for adoption.
  • Lead proof of concept initiatives and guide transition from experimentation to enterprise ready solutions.  

Solution & Domain Architecture Leadership (~25%)

  • Provide architectural oversight and design guidance for complex, cross functional initiatives.
  • Ensure solutions are scalable, secure, resilient, and aligned with enterprise standards and cybersecurity requirements.    

Stakeholder Collaboration & Governance (~10%)

  • Partner with IT leadership, delivery teams, and business stakeholders to drive alignment and informed decision making.
  • Participate in architecture reviews and governance forums.    

Mentorship & Continuous Improvement (~10%)

  • Mentor development teams; promote architectural best practices and continuous improvement across IT.

Skills and Abilities:  

Ability to:

  • Perform all essential duties with minimal supervision. 
  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non technical audiences. 
  • Balance innovation with operational stability, security, and cost efficiency. 
  • Influence without direct authority and drive consensus across diverse stakeholder groups.

Knowledge:

  • Enterprise architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF or equivalent). 
  • Modern cloud platforms, integration patterns, data architectures, and infrastructure technologies. 
  • Cybersecurity principles, risk management, and regulatory considerations. 
  • Application modernization and digital transformation practices.

Minimum Education and Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. 
  • Advanced degree and/or architecture certifications (e.g., TOGAF, cloud architecture certifications) preferred.

Minimum Experience:

  • 10+ years of progressive IT experience, including enterprise or solution architecture roles. 
  • Demonstrated experience leading architecture for large scale, complex technology initiatives. 
  • Proven track record evaluating and adopting new technologies in an enterprise environment.

Leadership:
-    Serves as a thought leader and trusted advisor to IT and business leadership. 
-    Guides and mentors architecture and engineering teams without direct line authority. 
-    Promotes a culture of innovation, accountability, and architectural discipline.
