About the role

Hourly range is $21.63/hour to $64.42/hour with a midpoint of $42.31/hour. New hires typically receive between minimum and midpoint, however, we may go slightly higher based on experience, internal equity and market.

GENERAL PURPOSE: 
The responsibility of this classification includes independently performing - under general supervision - skilled electrical/electronic and mechanical work to diagnose, maintain, repair, rebuild, overhaul, service, inspect light rail vehicles (LRVs) and equipment and their electronic systems; he/she also performs testing and repair of communications systems, surveillance equipment, and other related equipment. 

Candidates will have ability to comprehend the skilled technical duties involved in performing inspections, preventative and corrective maintenance, and troubleshooting on all mechanical systems for the wayside and LRVs in area of assignment; ensures all LRVs and related equipment on the right-of-way are safe and ready at all times; responsible for all repairs, modifications, and rebuilding of LRV systems and components, inspection, maintenance, and repair including making repairs to light rail vehicles and their systems; adjusts motors, generators, brake systems, and related components; inspects, diagnoses, and repairs a variety of systems associated with light rail vehicles including LRV signals, tracks and switch machines, overhead contact system, traction power substations, and a variety of shop tools and equipment. Services and performs preventive maintenance duties on equipment. Install, troubleshoot, repair, maintain and perform scheduled maintenance on the LRVs and subsystems to include but not limited to the overhead contact system, traction power substations, signals and switches, tracks and right-of-way, Operations and Maintenance (O&M) facilities, and other various infrastructures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The following duties are a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

  • Experience in the application of mechanical and electrical principles, repair methods, standards and practices found in a journey level skilled trades position.
  • Performs light rail vehicle preventative maintenance as scheduled or required on a regular basis; performs daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual maintenance on all systems including 3-phase inverters, battery chargers, closed-circuit television (CCTV) system, high-speed circuit breakers, doors, brakes, carbody, lights and warning systems, bridge plates, propulsion systems, hydraulics, and locomotion.
  • Inspects and/or performs corrective maintenance and troubleshooting daily on all systems pertaining to Skoda & Brookville light rail vehicles.  Documents maintenance and repairs/adjustments for tracking and compliance purposes.
