Instructor - Film Internship and Field Work: The Film Internship and Field Work instructor will lead concurrent sections of FILM STUDIES Internship and Field Work for students enrolled in credit-bearing field work opportunities (FILMSTD 4191 / 5193; P and DL sections; full semester, 4wk, 6wk, 7wk, 8 wk). The Film Studies internship instructor guides and supervises students during their practical work experience, ensuring students apply theoretical knowledge learned in the classroom to real-world situations by providing regular feedback, assigning tasks relevant to student learning goals, and overseeing their progress and expected goals within the workplace.

Film Studies Internship and Field Work practicum sections grant academic credit for approved work experience and on-the-job learning in film and media studies and/or film production related employment opportunities. Professional internships offer students the opportunity to gain career-related work experience, network with professionals in the field, integrate knowledge from coursework into a real-world setting, and help define career path options for majors and minors in film and media arts programs. Course credit for internship/field work is provided by the Department of Theatre, Film, and Media Arts in autumn, spring, summer semesters. 

The internship instructor maintains and updates course syllabi for all sections of Film Studies internship/Field Work; reviews and approves requests for enrollment in identified internships (with review of employer expectations, job description, internship hours and dates, and compliance with Federal Fair Labor Standards); supervises student interns, leading meetings and evaluation of student work; assigns and grades coursework for goal development and self-assessment throughout internship participation; corresponds with employer for review(s) of student participation and communicates constructive feedback to students; reviews students’ personal and professional goal development and leads assessment of their participation at conclusion of internship; conducts exit interview to solicit student feedback on participation and employer experience. The internship instructor serves as the primary point of contact between the department, student, and employer, answering questions that arise in internship credit-bearing activities, and advocating for student if challenges arise with employer, work tasks, or workload. Instructor also ensures that students receive appropriate training, organization, and communication from employer while participating in internship experience.
