Job Description

Summary

The Director, Trade Emerging Markets, is responsible for directing underwriting and economic strategy tied to complex trade and emerging market initiatives. This role provides enterprise-level leadership for evaluating, developing, underwriting, and operationalizing new trade strategies that support client value, member affordability, revenue generation, and EBITDA performance. The Director partners cross-functionally both internally and with external vendors to align strategy, financial modeling, contract considerations, implementation readiness, and ongoing performance measurement. This role has direct reports and is accountable for team leadership, coaching, workload prioritization, performance management, and professional development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Direct underwriting strategy and economic evaluation for complex trade initiatives, including wholesale strategy, medical rebates, gene cell therapy contracting, international sourcing, direct-to-consumer procurement models, and other cost of goods strategies.
  • Lead development of enterprise business cases, financial models, pricing assumptions, margin analyses, and client value propositions for emerging market programs and trade strategies.
  • Establish underwriting frameworks, assumptions, governance processes, and decision criteria to ensure emerging market strategies are financially viable, operationally executable, contractually supportable, and aligned to formulary and trade strategy.
  • Partner across the enterprise to evaluate program impacts across rebates, guarantees, ingredient cost, network economics, formulary strategy, client contracting, invoicing, reporting, and implementation.
  • Own and maintain emerging market program roadmaps, market event assessments, and performance tracking for assigned strategies.
  • Provide executive-level communication and recommendations regarding emerging market opportunities, risks, financial impact, implementation readiness, and prioritization.
  • Lead internal alignment meetings and cross-functional workgroups to ensure deliverables, decisions, owners, timelines, and escalation paths are clear and documented.

Supervisory Responsibilities        

Manages assigned staff in the segment area. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Supports and enforces all company policies and procedures in a fair and consistent manner, taking corrective action whenever necessary.
