Job Description
The Kinetic Group is a world leader in the design, manufacturing, and distribution of small caliber ammunition under the iconic brands B&P, CCI, Federal Premium, Fiocchi, HEVI-Shot, Remington and Speer. As a Mechanical Design Technician, you will be responsible for developing new methods, tooling and machine designs and resolve processing issues/problems involved in the manufacturing of shells, primers, and/or bullets in the ammunition plants. Support Manufacturing Engineers with process support and capital projects.
This position reports to the Sr Supervisor of Manufacturing Engineering and is based out of our Anoka location.
What you’ll do:
Develop conceptual and final design solutions. Complete detailed mechanical design, assembly and parts list generation, engineering documentation development and drawing release for new manufacturing equipment.
Use engineering experience and principles to create & design manufacturing systems for cost savings initiatives, capacity expansion, quality improvements, and safety abatement. Provide and implements technical solutions to problems which require ingenuity and innovation.
Represents the organization as a technical contact on projects.
Identifies and implements cost reduction opportunities such as improved material utilization, increased machine/process efficiency, reduced cost of poor quality, etc.
Investigates and troubleshoots production difficulties and takes corrective measures.
Assists in developing improvements and changes to the design process and/or process tools.
Assists in prioritizing and balancing design/drafting work across group.
Experience you bring:
Technical or Associate’s Degree in Mechanical Drafting/Design.
5+ years’ experience in a manufacturing engineering environment.
5+ years’ experience in mechanical design using SolidWorks
Ability to model fully defined components and assemblies efficiently
Familiarity with high volume metallic parts manufacturing operations and equipment.
Understanding of Lean Manufacturing.
Strong problem solving skills.
Excellent organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.
Excellent mathematical, problem solving, written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to perform at a high level with minimal supervision and direction.
You might have:
Understanding of predictive maintenance technologies, design, and installation of automated systems.
Experience with lean manufacturing concepts.
Small caliber ammunition manufacturing experience.
FEA/Statistical/DOE experience
Experience with Bluestar and Microsoft AX
Physical Requirements: Most time is spent sitting with occasional standing and walking in the immediate work area or in manufacturing. Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling weights of up to 10 pounds. Periodic climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling when observing production processes. Reaching, handling, and fingering (manual dexterity) for work on computer, function board, measuring dies, products or tooling. Vision for observing production processes, inspecting primer mix, etc. Hearing for diagnosing problems in machinery due to the sounds made.
Mental Requirements: Reading for technical materials and blue prints and math skills for calculations and conversions
