About the role

Lead Software Engineer, CoCounsel AI Assistant

Are you a Full Stack software engineer passionate about building AI-driven products? Would you like to help shape the future of agentic UIs?

If that’s you, then consider joining the CoCounsel AI Assistant team as a Lead Fullstack Software engineer. You’ll be part of a team responsible for pushing forward innovative products for legal and other professionals.

About the Role

The CoCounsel AI Assistant team is both a platform and a product team. The Lead Full Stack Software engineer will:

  • Build user-facing features which drive the CoCounsel chat application, and platform capabilities to enable partners from around the company to reach our customers.

  • Develop delightful application code, easy-to-use framework and component libraries, and push our team to be efficient, productive, and nimble in a fast-moving field.

  • Bring deep expertise in frontend engineering while thoughtfully considering backend and platform implications--especially as evolving LLM capabilities (e.g., real-time streaming) require coordinated changes across the stack, from efficient server-side delivery to responsive client rendering.

  • This is an IC leadership role. We expect technical expertise, but also excellent interpersonal and communication skills, whether among peer engineers on the team, or stakeholders and other leaders around the company.

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues up and down the technical stack.

About You

You’re a fit for the role of Lead Software Engineer if you have the following required qualifications:

  • At least five years professional software development experience. Formal computer science education is a plus but is not required.

  • Experience in technical leadership such as mentoring other engineers, breaking features down into stories, discussing competing implementations, etc.

  • Deep expertise in front-end technologies and architectures (e.g., React, micro-frontends/module federation, event-driven systems, TypeScript, API design, realtime communication such as websockets, RPC, or SSEs).

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively, and a self-starter mentality with quick learning and adaptability.

  • Proven ability to execute both tactical and strategic solutions.

Additional preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with Python, large language models, machine learning applications, metrics, and agentic systems.

  • Track record of utilizing the cutting edge of AI tooling and techniques.

  • Have strong opinions about the future of LLM-driven application UX.
